View Full Version : Are you ever too old?

It's been a while since I've posted a thread, and after reading the drama that occured last week, I want to first say that I'm glad that this site is fully operation - kudos Larry D, Russ, and WCToyota. Ok, my thread.

I've always wanted to mod/tune my 00GTS - and even today, I envy all of you with mod lists longer than my grocery list. But, now I wonder if I'm getting too old to mod/tune my car? Do you guys/ladies think there's an age limit to mod/tuning your Celica (or what ever vehicle you drive)? I ask cause it seems/looks like a good portion of newcelica.org registrers are around from the late teens to mid 20's.

I'm just trying to get insight.

Thanks for any input you may have.

i don't think anyone is too old to modacar =) ... i would do it up to old age ... maybe with my dream benz or bimmer ... but i can only dream ... don't let anything stop you ... but just do it right =) ... no fancy neon lights and stickers unless ur sponsered or a race car =) ... okay well with that said ... have fun modding

It depends. If you are doing ricer mods like putting on aluminum wings and decals, yeah you are too old, I think that kind of stuff (to a certain extent) is pretty juvenile.

If you are doing performance mods, there is of course no limits at all. I met a guy on the road who was older than my dad that modded his porche 911 all up, he stepped on it and showed me what it had, we chatted for a minute at the light, he was really cool, and at the same time, mature.

Anyways, dont sketch about it. I think world is pretty messed up because of age classification.

I accept the challenge, he may have more energy than me as his profile also says he's a student and does web sites. :chuckles:

PS - Ace, if you have to ask if you're too old to do mods then you probably are.....

I think the only thing that is cooler than an older guy that is an enthusiast and mods is a hot girl thats an enthusiast and mods :) seriously though, i always think its cool when I see an old dude tearin it up on the rode in a rice rocket.

Very valid points made by all. Here's something I think is extemely relevant to this discussion

I think it's probably better to start modding your car when you are older and probably more financially secure. Some of us (myself included) are into modding their car so much that it causes us to not have enough money for other things. Sometimes "we" go a little too far with our cars.

Only 20 something year olds see anything over that as being "too old" LOL! If they see themselves driving Buicks when they reach a certain age, that's their choice :D.

So, nope...no such thing as too old...I mean just look at oldster! :D

I sometimes ask myself the same thing.

Then I write another check and my mind releases some of those sweet endorphins and I'm all better.

Yes that was a Simpsons rip off ;)

Very familiar with it, I was raised in Security and lived in COS until 93 when we made the move to California. That's a beautiful area you live in.

When I am old enough to want to own a car lke a Buick, or Oldsmobile (not that I think I ever will) you can bet your sweet a$ses it will be modded to hell. A car without mods, is like having an ice cream cone without ice cream....it sucks! MOD ON OLDIES!!:applaud:

If you get enjoyment from modifying your car, I don't think that you should let your age stop you.

But you have to accept that the perceptions of others may be that you are too old. I mean, no matter what, a guy in his forties driving a slammed Celica with a kit and rims is going to look like he is going through a mid life crisis to onlookers. Even if he has been doing that kind of stuff since he was in high school and is just continuing to do what he has been doing to cars his whole life, a lot of people are going to think that you look pretty ridiculous.

There will always be closed minded and bigoted folks, not much we can do about that. I don't think that will be a real problem in my case. The majority of the cosmetic mods done by the younger set do not appeal to me so wouldn't go on my car anyway. The things that I would really like to do will not be visible so would not be an issue. On a final note regardless of what I did to my car the last thing that would concern me would be looking ridiculous in the eyes of someone who doesn't know me from Adam.

Um, most people here are young because it's a Celica page. Celica is marketed toward a young demographic from the ground up. Mods has nothing to do with age. Celica does.

I probably look pretty ridiculous to onlookers in just about everything I do. Oh well.
No piercings or colored hair but hell, I'm still into Heavy Metal, Loud!
The woman who lives with me is 18 years younger than me, so, if ya find me cruisin the streets with the youngsters, don't be surprised.

oldster; Security huh..cool! I lived in COS from 69- 95 (mostly)

Wow, thanks for the input, I better go out and sell mine right away since I don't fit the demographic.

Isn't it better to mod your car when your older cause you have more money? Man, if I had my parent's income I would have the fastest streetable Celica... Untill then, I'll enjoy my many part time jobs ;)
