it only takes a day or 2 (at max) to fully get the technique

05-27-2004, 11:35 AM
what is involved in having a club?
1) dedicated forum?
2) meets?
3) doing things together? (orders, mods,..)
4) helping each other out?
5) sticker?
i don't see them happening outside of this forum.

Hey, I'll be in boston tonight ;)
I would be down for a MA celica club, but I'm just too darned busy. Hell, I could only make it to 2 autoX meets this year, and I really love autoX!!
However, the occasional meet is cool, especially if it's on a friday (my day off) ;)

BB's parking is very small....well unless u park very close to morrisey blvd. i dont go there alot, actually i rarely go there. I hop on morrisey blvd every morning driving to school yet when I wanted to head to boston bowl, I always miss that little exit. Ha. :D
bb is ghetto just like gt.
There's a car meet at colt state park. RI. If anyone wants to go.. Saturday. We're having a bbq

greg, you know you're all talk.
art? i was thinking you'll study business.
ok, so we have 3 choices right?
Good time, B bowl and BBQ.
I personaly think the parking lot of B bowl is to small,
I think good time is not a bad choice because of the size of the parking lot and we can play pool or video game there.
BBQ is a very nice idea, too ( I love BBQ). But it will take more time then the choices above.
I live in Waltham, so location should not be a big problem for me.
I would suggest going to a mall also.. or head over to a small pool hall like mickey's in holbrook.
good meet spots. or the beach

Hey, I think I can meet up with you on Sunday afternoon. I'm heading up to Hudson, NH to go golfing around 12:30ish. I think I can meet up in Lowell if you want. I can meet up on that Lowell exit that leads to that big rotary. I forgot the name of it. Let me know if you wanna test out your intake on my car. Maybe I'll even buy it from you if things go great.

I didn't feel like driving to Lowell. I just veged at home, then Sunday I started to watch the Indy 500 which I didn't finish watching cause the Nascar race came on at 5pm and the race kicked off at about 5:50pm EST. That was my weekend. I just wanted to relax first long weekend that I have had off in a while. No OT and no Reserve weekednd. Just Rest. So how many people turned out in Lowell?

welcome sayjin! but personally i recommend the tanabe super racing medallion and the TPR CAI! dont waste your time with the injen! im getting rid of mine for the TPR
but as far as my motor, it will be shipped tomorrow. im having them check the lift bolts and the motor passed all the figorous testing over at Rising Sun Engines. Its coming from Cali and it should be here in 5 business days. So im hoping to have it in my possession by next Friday and then spend Saturday installing it. I have a friend who has a cherry picker and an engine stand so im good to go. And I got the company to lower their price and all in all im paying $1650 shipped for the motor from Japan. not a bad deal i think. so hopefully in 8 days, i will be cruising in my baby again!!! :D

sounds like a very good deal. how many miles on the motor and why did you say it's coming from CA (when it's comin from japan)??

CA is usally the destination for all goods coming from Japan. From CA it travels via domestic mail. It's cheaper that way. ;)

its already been imported from japan mike. they get in cali, do all the testing, then ship it from there.
well when i asked all my questions about the motor, this is the reply i got. i also got them to check the lift bolts for me because if they are busted, i told him that i'd assume it would be covered under the 90 day warranty and i dont want to waste time sending the motor back or extracting them myself.
We can replace the "lift" bolts for time and materials. But it looks easy enough for you to do it yourself.
I understand that you want to hear a mileage *number*. Unfortunately, we don't know it. Nobody does. Some people tell you a number anyway. There is no point at which a car in Japan must be junked or have the engine/trans replaced. IF ANYONE QUOTES YOU A MILEAGE ON A USED ENGINE, ASK THEM TO PROVE IT AND TO PUT IT IN WRITING. Their mileage "guarantee" will suddenly become an "average" (remember that an average only tells you how many miles are on all the ones you are *not* buying). Although there are many exporters in Japan, all of the cars come off the road for the same basic reasons. Our products are essentially identical to all other importers *when we get them*. The difference that we offer is to take the time to hot run test them before you buy them.
How do we test them? First, all of the external components (manifolds, etc which are in reality scrap metal since they can't be used here) are removed from the motor. All of the external passages are sealed, then the outside of engine is washed in what amounts to an industrial sized dishwasher. Immediately afterwards (that's important in case any moisture gets in the cylinders) the engine is fired up & test run on our test bench using our natural gas fuel system and universal ignition system. The operator runs the motor first without any exhaust to inspect for smoke. Next he attaches the exhaust system & makes sure the engine runs quietly. He observes the oil pressure, & now that the motor is warm, he shuts it down & checks the compression on each cylinder. Final step is to make a visual inspection for obvious leaks, broken studs, & he even looks at the valve guides once the manifolds are removed to make sure that they are not passing any oil.
Obviously, failure to meet any of the above criteria will result in the motor's being rejected. Rejection can mean either a trip to the shop to be repaired (as in the case of a broken stud), or the scrap pile (as in the case of a rod knock).
Our standards are very strict and high. For example, we only allow 5% variation among the cylinders for compression even thought the manufacturers allow 10% variation. Oil pressure likewise must be well within spec. The reason is that we don't want to sell you something that is *barely* good. We want your motor to last a long time.
Regardless of where a motor comes from, you really shouldn't buy it based on "mileage". Obviously, it is impossible to prove a mileage claim, but more importantly, mileage is only one of the things that influence the *condition* of the engine. How well it is maintained (oil changes) and how it is driven it are equally important. For example, would you want an engine that "only has 50,000 miles on it" if you knew that it was driven by a teenager who never once changed the oil? Of course not. That same motor, although "low mileage" would undoubtedly test poorly because it is not in good *condition*. So what you really should look for is a motor that is thoroughly tested to assure that it is in good *condition*. As you probably discerned from our web site, we do everything possible to check the motor our before we ship it. How do we know that we aren't selling you a 100,000 mile smokestack? Simple: 100K smokestacks don't test out well.
If you have any questions about our test procedures, browse this page: http://www.risingsunengines.com/engines.html#testing.
