MAN WTF....

ok ok so i put in an aftermarket intake on my 98 ACCORD LX. [a generic.. no brand]

and took to the shop and it says i don't pass smog.. I DON'T get it really... cuz isn't that car LEV??!?! and if i put an intake it shoudln't get that bad! so damn i have to put back the stock box in.. and i'll prolly leave it in cuz my parents drive it.. they hate hassles .. so their' on my case...

brings up a question of Injen intake on our CELICA .. does that entail that we won't pass smog?? i believe its 50 state .. is it??

oh and let me know if that shop is BS me on the smog.. cuz i'm not there.. my Pops took it there.. probably hella pissed..

i'm at work..

Injen is not CARB legal... i think AEM is tho.. INJEN CAI never came with a CARB sticker... Tho i think it should not affect a smog..but who knozz... i have to do it next year..so will see

Without the CARB certification sticker, you are screwed.

MOdifying the intake will affect the related emissions components, namely MAF sensor. Even if the Accord and Celica are LEV, CA has those strict emissions standards that basically discourages modifications to emissions related components.

Get Injen to do the paperwork

I was thinking about our local smog test myself. They have done underhood inspections in the past on my previous car, a CRX si with I/H/E, and I never had a problem because they saw the CARB exemption sticker which came with the intake, and never questioned it.

So, because that I don't think that any of these intakes are CARB approved, I took the liberty of getting the information from my old intake, so I could create my own CARB exemption decal for a new one if it's not approved when I decide to buy it.

Here it is:

Racing Sports Akimoto
HC88INTK, A194INTV
CARB D-354-2
P.O. Box 804
South Pasadena, CA 91031

I figure who cares what brand I put it on, I'll just remove the original name (if there is one), stick on my new decal, and wallah! instant CARB approval!

As long as the car passes the sniff test, it shouldn't matter if the stupid thing is CARB approved.

*NOTE: In no way do I condone falsifying information, but I can't stop you........

When i recently went to a smog only station, they said as long as the factory sensors remain in their original locations, it shouldn't be a problem.

I can't for the life of me figure out why it matters what kind of intake you have as long as your car passes smog....

I mean, am I missing the point?

I think some jerks at the testing centers are freaked and fail it for the VISUAL inspection regardless if it passes the sniff test.

Real penis heads

hehe I said "penis"

some shop are okay with having intakes as long as you have the tubes/sensors all connected. but some shops dont accept that at all...so you automatically fail visual test..i think thats lame!!

YOU WON'T PASS. Well not the visual part, which is the first part of the smog check. You must have a carb-sticker on the intake to show that the intake is carb/smog legal, so if you bought one of these no brand name intake, better that stock airbox back before getting the smog check.

Plus, even if a part claim itself to being smog legal, you still might not pass the smog test.

I have seen a few Hondas and Acuras not pass smog even though they had smog legal parts such as DC headers, AEM intakes, and other parts which are carb legal.

So I suggest taking the time off to put back the stock airbox before getting it smogged again. Reset the ECU after putting the stock airbox back on and run it for a little bit before bringing it back.

In my school, theres a REF center where people have to do smog. My classmate use to work with the guys who runs it. A lot different types of cars go through it, and people can't fake it. Aftermarket Intakes require some of paper showing proof that it's SMOG legal. Same thing with Lamp certificate, EVERYSINGLE LIGHT MUST WORK. Smog here in Cali sucks though, we got it the worst.
BTW, if you live in CALI, watch out for BAR. They're coming REAL HARD on SMOG. Each week, they post how many shops got caught, what people got arrest, how much the fine EXACTLY cost and how long they have to serve time. In the Bay Area, theres a guy name Bruce Hotchkis, hes a TOTAL ****!. It could be his day off, if he sees a blower sticking out of the hood, front mount intercooler, he'll start looking at your car upclose and everything. You can tell him to get off your property, but he writes down your License plate, and he has total access to all you infomation. Hes the type that he'll get under your car when it's parked when you leave to try to find something on you, like NO CATS.

My teacher told me that the way to get around visual inspections from cops and CHP is to gutt the cat, and make a pipe go through the canister. Straight pipe with a CAT look!
