View Full Version : TRD Springs

Hey all,
I was looking to pick up some TRD springs to lower my ride about an inch. I have read that the overall ride is harsher and transmits a lot more noise into the cabin. While I would like the car lower, I don't want to ride in a stagecoach - will I be sorry if I buy and installed the springs?

Here's what you must realize if you are going to modify your car:
"There is no such thing as a free lunch"
Meaning, anything you do to your car will have a down side to match it's benifit.
Springs:
good thing: car is lower, looks better, handles better
bad thing: the ride is a little more rough, but with a mild drop like the TRD, very streetable and liveable.
Short Shifter
good thing: gives you a quicker shift, with a more precise feel.
bad thing: it takes more effort to shift gears
Lambo Doors
good thing: Ummmm.... well, ahhh....
bad thing: Your car's not a Lamborgini ;)
Well, hopfully you get the point: (almost) all modifications have benifits, and so long as you can live with the downsides, you'll enjoy the changes you make.

I have the TRD springs. At first, you notice the handling is better and the ride is a little more bumpy but it is definately liveable. Now it just feels like stock to me cuz I'm used to it. You def won't regret it though...

I think TRD springs are worthless. I used to want them but after I did some reading I found that Tanabe, Tokico, and Tein where all better choices. Better looks, better price, better feel.

This is the lamest thing Ive read in awhile. TRD springs are great. Get them along with TRD/KYB/Koni struts and youll be a happy camper.

I have the TRD Spring/Strut combo. Best money I've spent on the car. Remember the strut is made for the spring and vice versa and all of it is made especialy for he Celica.

The TRD springs are the best springs out there if you must have that comfortable yet somewhat stock ride because they are made to work with the stock struts. If your looking for comfort and longetivity from the stock struts then TRD is the way to go because after that the drops keep getting lower and lower, which decreases strut life and ride comfort.

I'm about to buy that same setup for my celica. I was wondering, why did you decide to get the shocks and not coil overs? From whatever brand is applicable.
I'm leaning towards the shock/spring combo because I just don't feel that I'd use them enough to justify the purchase.

I would have loved some real Coilovers but at the time I could not justify spending $1500 for my suspension. This might be something I would do in the near future. Athough I started auto-x'ing and have fallen in love with my G/F's set up on her Celi. She has Koni's with Eibock (sames as TRD) springs. I love the adjustability that you get with the Koni's
If you want everyday driving and comfort I would go with the TRD spring/Strut combo. If your going to be doing some real racing then coilovers should be on your list..........not the Tien Basics though :D

IMO, all you bought was Eibach springs and KYB struts with the TRD logo stuck on. Based on that (since I have the same struts), I think Tanabe is a far better choice for springs. Better looking drop, stiffer feel, and I bet I spent less money because I did not pay for the TRD logo.

If you want to suck the TRD **** thats on you. I'm not pissing my money away on a company that does little more than pay to have there logo painted on other peoples product. TRD (really Eibach) drop is too high and the spring rate is too soft, and you over pay for it.

And I will bet that you are wrong. Since the TRD Springs/Struts were made to function as a single unit. Yes the springs are MADE by Eibach and the struts are MADE by KYB. But they are built for TRD using TRD specs. The Eibach and KYB struts are not exactly the same as the TRD's.
Did you know that the 2zz is built by Yamaha? Did you know that about 80 or so percent of the parts on our cars are manufactured by other companies for Toyota?
Oh and I've had Tokico's on my 2 CRX's and if you have the Blue's I pity you.

^^^ I never said **** about having Tokico, I have Tanabe GF210 on KYB GR2. Yes I knew all that, whats your point, what did that extra tid bit have to do with my opinion of TRD. My point is you can do just as good, no better, than TRD with less money. This is my opinion it will not change.

I haven't realy seen anything out from Tanabe that didn't suck.
I pay cost on TRD products so it was a good deal for me.
Ok man I won't argue with you I'm sure you know about suspensions then I.

Wait, wait, wait, I never said that either. I just know what I want in a suspension, TRD is not it for me. If you got TRD cheap then right on, most of us can't.
My overall point is just that TRD is not enough for me, I got a little harsh like I tend to do but I hope my point shines through.

I'll agree here, Toyota subsidizing parts for the car is the same as all of Ford labeled F-1 motors being built by Cosworth.
I think it means more to me that the parts under scrutiny are made to certain specifications as opposed to "made to fit." That's why I'll pay for the TRD logo.

I bet you run Big O tires on your car and have a type-R badge on the back of your Celi too.

I'm going to forward this thread and a few others that comment on Eibach over to a friend of mine over there and see what he has to say. I can't promise that he will come on here, but I'll see what I can do.
Just so you know, he also does all the photo shots for SCC magazine that REQUIRE a skilled driver. Those crazy cover shots of a car drifting thru a turn....those are all him. He is also paid by Eibach to DRIVE any and all VIP visitors to Eibach at track events around the said track at rates that will make them piss their shorts. And the cars he gets to drive.....oh man, the cars he gets to drive......
My point is, he knows his **** when it comes to cars and especially suspension! He isn't bias to Eibach just because he works there too, he's honest and he'll let you know exactly what he's thinking. Let me see if I can get him here in the next few days....

Your opinion isn't under scruitiny here, it's your information and presentation of said information.
TRD doesn't just "pay someone to build something then paint their logo on it." As was stated earlier TRD specifies the design of whatever product they are having built and goes to a company and says, "hey, can you build this part just like this?" And if they can, then TRD (through Toyota lets not forget) contract that company to produce that specified part.
It's the same as a general contractor hiring out sub contractors to work for him.

^^^there harsh (think thats what hes getting at), TRD is softer closer to stock ride. I'm going to get flamed for saying that as well.

I have TRD springs and Tokico blue shocks. This is a truly wonderful combination for the driver that will be using their car for daily purpose. I personally would not go lower if you live in the snowbelt. Even the stock Celica is a challenge in those conditions. TRD's lower the car very slightly over one inch. You can go lower but the compromises rise exponentially each 1/4" further you go. You don't have to do the shocks at the same time, but you will save labour costs as you will definitelly have to do this change 1-2 years after fitting the springs. I can't recommend the combination more highly. Ride quality is maintained, looks improved; handling = brilliant.
