Alright...we all love our cars, and some of us take it to the next level for show purposes. And sometimes, it makes you just sit back and go "WTF were they thinking?"...
Can someone tell me how much these seats cost, and what car it comes from:

Dude, I love the RX-7 as much as the next guy, but it is not "as sports car as you can get."

I tend to agree, it's not a Lamborghini, it's not a Ferarri...it's not an exoticly-priced sports car...but it is a sports car. It's NOT as sports car as you can get, either...there's much more expensive sports cars out there. Nonetheless...it has only two seats, is RWD, weighs less than 2800(EDIT: I'm a dumbazz) (without driver), is twin-turbo'd from the factory (all of them are), and you can't even fit half of a golf bag in one. If that's not a sports car...jeezus..I don't know what is.
Anyways, if you've ever read about the history (I have..I've got the book done by the people at Mazda), you'd realize that the RX-7 was designed solely for the purpose of BEING a sports car. There's nothing on it that wasn't reduced or designed specifically to reduce weight, to improve handling and performance, plus there's nothing in the car that doesn't need to be. For it's price, and for the year of it's initial release (1991-92), it was amazing. Read all 300+ pages of the design and final production of the car, and you'll see...for the money it sold for, this is a damn nice sports car. Go take a look at the performance numbers for the Spirit-R (hint-hint), and you'll get a lump in your throat.
Anyways..that's extremely off-topic...besides..if anyting..this will make you realize that cars can have extremely expensive parts inside them for not being "the most sports car you can get". :chuckles:
The point of the thread was to say...who in their right mind would pay for shiat like this...unless you're Mr.Bling-Bling? We can all lust...I guess. I wish I was f'ing rich though... :wtc:

My guess is the NSX-R. I know they come with red, fixed back, Reacro seats. I think they are even made with Carbon-kevlar. I bet they are rediculously priced as well. My guess is somewhere north of $2500.

Just about. The thing is built around the engine and chassis & space for two in a pinch.

I think we've already had this discussion. Stop. You guys are just bored 'cuz you don't have the answer...so here it is:
Those are Mazda RX-7 2002 Spirit-R Recaros that run $3350 dollars a pop. Not a pair, mind you....a piece. :wtf:
So... $6700 bucks plus shipping for both. And someone from the RX-7 board just bought some. Actually, two people just did. :faint:

do they have platinum sliders?
ArchangelX
06-22-2004, 05:57 PM
No..but they do come with FD sliders...so it'll fit without modification. Oh, and they're not adjustable, plus, the RX-7's steering wheel isn't adjustable either. You better fit before you pay out the cash. :gap:

Well they are amazing seats. My comment wasnt to brush off exotics as sports cars. Maybe i sould say, reasonably priced sports cars. But i do think that they are amazing. If i didnt own a mr2 turbo i would be looking into a FD.

Damn...you're right...the base model is just under 2800 pounds. I was thinking freakin' Celica or something. :wtc:

I didnt know there was an RX-7 in 2002...was that the last year they made it (before RX-8)?
Do the seats have parachutes/ejector seats? That way, if youre gonna crash, you can eject from the car immediately before impact...when youre thrown from the car, seat and all, youll glide comfortably back to earth...thatd be worth $6700...
if there is an RX-7 in 2002, i dont know how much it costs, but the RX-8 is only $24000 brand new. Why would you purchase an option that is worth 1/3 the value of the car?

the rx-7 was only available in japan past 95.
that's when they got even cooler than they were to begin with

Arch, when is your FD supposed to reach the docks? My friend will probably go gaga over it! He's been wanting a PFC since he got the car. You're also probably one of the few people on the island that had an engine rebuild from a professional since there aren't any rotary shops anymore. The one exception is a local guy named Wendel who's known for his rotary knowledge (although he doesn't have a shop). IIRC, he has a 20B powered FC. :headbang:

I'll probably go ga-ga when I see it, myself. I miss having a car...it's hard to go from a 2-door sports car with a halfway-decent sound system to a rusted, 93 Toyota pickup whose speakers are cracked. I'm having withdrawal symptoms. :wtc:
Anyways, I'm glad there's SOMEONE on the island that understands more about rotaries than I do. Doh. :( As for PFCs...he should get a Japanese ECU. 99 Specs and a PFC to go with it..haha. I would, if I was going to keep it twin turbo'd...there's less damn hosesd in the 99's.
2002 Spirit-Rs were the last RX-7s made...and you get THOSE seats with the package. The Spirit-R is one bad mamma jamma. I drool over it, everytime I see it.

As the final limited-production series of the RX-7, the Sprit R series goes on sale on April 22 at Mazda Anfini and selected Mazda dealerships throughout Japan.
The third-generation RX-7, first launched in 1991, has a particularly distinctive exterior design. Its lightweight, compact and high-output rotary engine enables the driver to feel superb driving pleasure. Epitomizing Mazda's spirit of sports car, RX-7 has won popularity among the customers since its 1978 launch. Mazda envisions the production of the current RX-7 model (FD-3S) to come to an end in August 2002.
The Type-A Spirit R is a two-seater model fitted with the Recaro-made exclusive red full bucket seats. These lightweight seats reduce the overall chassis weight of the vehicle by approximately 10 kg. Braking performance is enhanced through the use of large drilled type ventilated disk brakes for all four wheels and high rigid stainless mesh brake hoses. The Type-A Spirit R model is the ultimate RX-7, boasting the most outstanding driving performance in its history.

I'm serious X 2. :gap:
You can probably get Kevlar seats for a helluva lot less...but not with the FD rails, seatbelts, yadda yadda. The FD really has a problem with other seats, because half the time they don't fit well. Sparco Torinos don't fit well at all...plus, these are from the limited production Spirit-R, so they're a collectors item pretty much. I'd love to keep my seats...they're setup perfect for the car, and they hold me in place great. They just need to be restitched.

You could buy 2 Miata's for the cost of those seats..
I can understand the collector's item thing, though.
I really really love the R1 seats though, the pseudo-suede things. Those are my favorite factory seats, evAr!!
