I have been having problems with my GTs -6 not being able to go into lift. It gets to 6 grand and it stays in the same cam. So i brought the car in to toyota and they replaced the tensioner, the belt, and the OCV valve. Well I was happy when I got the car back thinking everything would be working again. Wrong...First the service guy told me it was working just fine. So I drive off, I get far enough away from dealership and i hammer it. Guess what... It was doing the same thing...wouldn't change over. So i bring it back the next day. They say they have narrowed it down. They said it has something to do with the Head and there not being enough clearence. So they are going to take off the head and send it to the machine shop to be looked at. Meanwhile i have no car for the next week. Anyone else had a Head Problem? Oh get a load of this ...I asked the service tech if there was anyone at the dealer who was knowledgable about the VVTL-I engine. So this mechanic comes out and i'm trying to tell him what os wrong with my car. The funny part was he tried to tell me that the GTS has 32 valves...F*@kin idiot..... Well if anyone has any info they can relay to me would be appreceiated.

If the mechanic that's supposed to know about the 2ZZ said that, I would get my car out of there as quickly as possible.

Make sure your engine is warm. If the engine isn't warm, it wont go into lift. You shouldn't take your car up that high when its cold anyways. I hope thats what the problem is.
I'll bet you the tip of a bolt broke off in your head. It has happened to me and another guy on NC.Org called J Speed. IT is a factory defect and when that bolt breaks oil cannot flow to pump up the VVL. Hope this helps. Also make them give you a rental because they kept my car from 2/12 til 3/23!
My car is doing the same thing. Whenever I take it over 6k, I can feel the car actually lose power. It feels like its hesitating to speed up. I haven't taken it to a dealer so I'm gonna have to. What should I expect from the dealer? Would they not know anything about the lift? Thanks for your inputs.

Just a thought..
If the temperture sensor is faulty, and it does not send correct temp to ECU, then the ECU won't know that it can go into lift.
Might be a simple fix.

Well I found out what it was...BY THE WAY I KNOW TO LET MY CAR WARM UP BEFORE BEATING ON IT...A screw broke off one of the cams and got caught in a lobe. So they are replacing the whole head. I also got a 2002 camry le for a loner car. Thanks for the input.
