I'm lookin at throwin a set of bfg drag radials on the front of my gt-s, I'll be goin to the track a couple times soon, don't really have a way to carry a pair of 15" rims and tires with me...
I got 2 tires that are worn uneven (i got 4 tires in exchange for a bowling ball from a friend of mine... looks like he never rotated the tires) on my 17" rims...
I don't drive the car very much... so the short lifespan of the tire should be ok... but I'm wondering the performance gain at the track from having 15" on the front instead of 17"... I know you can accelerate quicker with the smaller size... but how much quicker?
It would really depend on the overall size of the entire wheel, tire included. With a smaller wheel you'd have the quicker acceleration, but you'd be traveling at a slower speed when it comes time to shift. I think you'd have to do some experimenation to see if it's worth it to be able to hold it in gear longer or shift earlier and quicker.

yea... you'd almost think if the car were powerful enough the larger wheels would be good... smaller might cause you to spend more time shifting than you'd want to.....
but of course the car isn't that powerful.
yet;)

I use 15's :) the other advantage I get with mine is the weight difference. my 15"s wiegh 9.5 lbs compared to my stock 16"s at like 20 lbs
my advice is go with the 15 inch rims.

k, ya talked me into it... but, the reason I was looking so short term is goin to the event in Norwalk, Oh... don't have a vehicle to carry extra set of rims in.. I wasn't sure if I'd have a very good chance of getting a decent 60' with my current tires. They're really noisy... bfg euro t/a's
maybe I could leave my 17's in the hotel room and put the 15's on there at the hotel... we're only takin a couple of cars tho.. mine and a 2g eclipse... not really alot of cargo room.
what do ya think? put a decent set of 4 street tires on it for now.. get the 15" for when I'll be at the tracks closer to home?

My question is what 15" rims do you have and whats the cost on them and I see you use BFG DR but size? What do you use for rear? Thanks!

So I take it he has a set of 4... Are they about the lightest wheels you can buy? Thanks.

most people are just using the front 2, change to the rota's/dr's on the front at the track. I think most people keep their street rims/ tires on the back the whole time
Not the lightest wheel, Konig Holes... aparently they are something like 9 pounds in a 15"... I'm not sure yet if they make a lug pattern we can use, or if it will clear the brakes....
don't quote me yet on the weight... I looked at/read about so many wheels today I'm not sure if those are the 9 pounders or not.. but there are some out there
