OK, who's the spring install expert around here?
Dan, Cody, Rox, Mark, Beuller, Beuller, anyone??
Anyone that knows what they're doing and wants to help install
a set of springs, lmk. I'd rather save the $$ on the install for other things if I can so let me know guys. Thanks!!

BTW, I got a set of DropZone Suspension springs off ebay for $115 shipped. They are a 1.8 drop front and rear. I'm paying for them Friday and should get them within a week. Thanks everyone, Jamie

What ever you do don't do it your self I had mine done by one of Duncan's friends last week he is a certified toyota tech and it took like 4 hours with all the tool (Air gun, good jack, spring compressor etc..) I watched him do it and it was a pain had to take the sway bar off of one side to get the struts off and back on. He only chared me like a 100 - 125 I gave him 150 because it took a lot longer to do then he thought and he did a really good job I can give you his number if you want he does really good work and since he is a certified toyota tech it won't void your warranty

Cool, thanks Mark.
Will it not void the warranty even though theyre not TRD springs?

Its a pain in the ass but do-able. To be honest a 1.8 drop with just springs is pretty damn low. At least you don't have a kit. It would be too low if you did. It will be rough considering you will be combining them with the stock shocks. They aren't made for each other and may not work well together. The shocks will have less to compress and more to rebound. For 115 it's worth a try though. We shall see.

Mine will be here in a week or so too. I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do about installing them. I may get Nick to install mine also. If not maybe we can have a tech day and install our springs, and Cody and Rox's hoods and whatever else.

Thanks for the info guys and Rox :)
If I weren't working on my Camaro at the same time, I
would have the $$ to get some shocks to go with them. So for now, this will have to do. At least I'll have the look I'm going for. And really, most of my driving is on the hwy and on well paved main roads so maybe it won't be too bad for now.
Am I right that Cody, Rox, and Mark all have TRD springs? That's a 1.3 drop right? Do you really think that 1.8 will be too low. Really, I'm probably not going to get a kit because when I have that kind of money to spend it goes to the Camaro. Also, remember that I'm still on stock wheels so IMO, the drop should look perfect. I think it'll look sweet like it is with the wing, hoodscoop, springs, and tint.
If you guys don't feel comfortable doing an install ourselves, lmk and I'll get with mark's friend to do em.
Thanks again for your help. Jamie

The TRD springs that Mark and Cody have are 1 1/8" in the front and 3/4"-1" in the back. Rox's are the Sportivo kit springs I think which are slightly less drop than the regular TRD. I think the 1.8 will look good! You will most likely need camber correction plates in the front, maybe the back. You should post in mods/perf to find out for sure. i'd like to know too. Your ride with those springs will also likely be kind of bouncy, but if the look is all you want you'll be ok until the stock shocks wear out.

You really need to get the shortened shocks at the same time as the springs. With the short springs and factory shocks, you are really using the shocks outside of thier design parameters. That equals bad. I got a great deal from David Draper at West Covina Toyota in Cali. Around $600 for TRD shocks and springs, and they came with new bump stops as well. I paid a local performance shop $130 for the install (way low for the amount of work to be done), but at least I know all the parts are made to function with one another.
Oh yeah- the ride is stiff but it handles like a mid-90's Corvette; I have Dunlop SP-9000's- one of the best street tires ever made. My only issue is that the rear suspension has settled over time and thrown the camber out of whack; the tires squat way out. I plan on getting another rear alignment done tomorrow.
If you need help with the trunk set up, let me know. I put three JL Audio 10W6's in a fiberglass spare tire well box; I think I know the back half of a Celica pretty well by know! I spent a weeks vacation in the hatch......

Thanks for the info Brad. I know I'm gonna need to replace the shocks. I just don't have the $$ right now. I've been spending alot of $$ on my Camaro project. I finished the motor for it this weekend and will be getting my tranny and new brakes in a couple weeks. Then it still needs carpet and seats before I can get it on the road so my next $1k is pretty much going to it. I'm sure my stock shocks will last for a little while. It may not be the most desired ride but it will have to do. Thanks again for your input. Jamie
