View Full Version : hardwire radar detector...where the link go?

Hi there....i finaly decided to hardwire my radar detector so that i dont have that wire in the way all the time but the link does not work. I found another on nextcelica.net but the instruction there are diffrent and the way its conencted there means its always on even if the car is off...there link that was on this website explained how it could be wired to come on with the car...thanks in advance....any help would be appreashiated

its pretty simple.. cut the radar detector wire.. one half is ground, the other is power, run the power to a switchable 12v power source like the dome light or the cigarette lighter.. run the ground to the frame.. that simple..

How I figure out which is power, and which is ground. Trial and error?

yeah if u wanna do the writeup Ill put it online.. as for power and ground... I just guessed on mine with the radar detector.it wasnt obvious cuz its usually red/black for power/ground.. mine was red/white and I cant remember which was what..

Can someone tell me which wire is the 12v from the cigaret lighter harness?

pull the lighter out.. should only be one wire that attaches to the back if I recall.. correct me if Im wrong..

No, there's about 5 wires behind the cig lighter.

Ok. I got it. I was looking after the harness, not on the actual lighter. Thanks, man.:) Everything worked out well although I got a hole in my seat from the soder gun b/c I'm so smooth and all.:mad:


Fack. Something broke and now the cig lighter doesn't work at all. I give up.

if u waited for my wy of doing it u wouldent need a solder gun..

well i didnt use a solder gun either..just splicing wires together really..

does the cig lighter not work but the radar does? if so then the wire came off the back of the cigarette lighter.. if neither work its the fuze..

The solder gun was for my speaker wires actually, it became loose behind the radio, so I finally bought a solder gun. Damn, is there anyway to get rid of a hole???

The cig lighter doesn't work anymore. It doesn't heat up nor power the radar detector. The green lighted ring around does come on with the headlight. I did disassemble the the thing earlier, but I put everything back in there. I didn't bother to check the fuse, but I'll do that tomorrow.

check the fuze..99% sure thats what it is..
