laptop for pfc...

wondering if you guys know... when you buy the adaptor for a laptop w/ the power fc do you get a cd-rom with the program on it or do you have to download it, or either?

Shopping for laptops on ebay right now... just wondering

looking at some older ones off-lease... some have cd rom some don't, but some don't have an os loaded.. need cd rom if no operating system.

I don't have one yet but what I have read the datalogit software is updated from files sent in an email. If anyone wants to upload the software somewhere for memebers to download I can host the site. Therefor if someone uploads the software you could download it to the laptop if it has net access. Let me know.

Datalogit comes with datalogit box, serial/usb cable (depend which type you got), and a CD-ROM to adjust numbers with. If you do get a notebook without a CD-ROM drive put the discin another computer and link up using home network and copy the files over to your computer. You have to have this software on the computer first, whatever the updates sent through email will update the original program.

all the datalogit boxes are serial..you will have to buy a USB adapter. Monkeywrench sells one too...as for the software updates getting emailed...those are just one file that gets updated...you will still need the entire software package to install the program...

If someone wants to upload the entire software package I can make it avaible for download. I dont know how big it is, but I'm guessing its prolly only a few Megs, even if its on a cd it prolly didn't use it all...

sentientpc, I am thinking of replacing my stock ECU with a power FC. The way I understand it I need to buy the powerfc for about 1k and that data logit software for an additional 395? I have the computers already

Monkeywrench has The power fc for about 978 and the datalogit adapter for 339.... it's the cord and box that go from serial to pfc cord, then like you said you have your laptop/computer already... looks like sentinal will get you the actual software... that should be all you need

You could also check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7912467519 comes with the ECU and hand controller (which is really only good for monitoring) for $1,049.00. Then get the datalogit adapter for $339.00 from www.monkeywrenchracing.com, and you can get base maps from them at the same time :)

Well, eventually I want to get the commander as a monitoring device. I know the datalogit/laptop can monitor everything that the commander can, and you get the logging features of the datalogit, but sometimes its a PITA to carry the laptop around all the time. Especially my HUGE Dell laptop, it weighs like 12 lbs hahaha. Im always afraid it will get stolen if I leave it in the car.

It is inconvenient to use datalogit with the computer, according to their forum you have to power up your laptop before even turning on the car. So if you do not have XP and have old slow computer that means a loooonnnnggg wait before you can see data... Now when dyno tuning you would not have much problem because you are tuning, but with daily driving having the commander to keep watch of things is good.
BTW on ebay there is a guy in Japan selling Power FC for alittle over a grand with commander, shipping to you is another $25.
So less than $1100 you can have PowerFC with commander shipped to your doors. I would recommand you emailing him to check stock on the Power FC though, they are on national back order here in U.S. so they may be short on supply in Japan as well.

wow...I guess I got lucky since I just got my PFC recently and didn't realize they were on backorder...yeah Matt said it was one of two he had left in stock. I still haven't put it in because I'm waiting on a CARB approved intake here in cali and I don't want to use my illegal custom intake on the street...and I don't want to try the PFC with the stock airbox as well...but it wouldn't hurt right? :P

no, It wouldn't hurt at all... you'd probably gain quite a bit anyways
