coming from the corolla mr2 world of the 4age i wanted to point out that many of these parts are interchangable. the 4age uses a c50 or a c52 trans and or the 4agze use the e153 i think is the number. somebody recntly swapped a celica c60 into his mr2 behind a 4age engine. the bellhousing bolt pattern is diff so you must use the bellhousing thta bolts to the block you plan to use. so i said all that to say this. the e153 is the trans found on the 4agze powered cars. it is basically an mr2t trans inside it uses the same LSD etc etc..now theoretically you could use the e153 on the celi by swapping bellhousings. will it work? i dunno you will have to try it and see. if it does then you have a very solid tranny with aftermarket support for axles and lsd etc..there are only a couple of diff size axles out there so you have to see what works for you. now going a step further. the e153= the mr2t trans= solara trans. the solara trans is a newer version of the mr2t trans it has better synchros etc.. some of the mr2t people have used this in the mr2. now one could take the mr2t trans and bolt a v6 in behind it. there are a couple of mr2 people who have v6s in their 2s. v6 in a celica anybody? hmmm. another thought is the mr2t trans is basicaly the same as the gt4 trans which is the mr2t + a small transfer case bolted to it. on my corolla this transfer case looks to fit just fine with no body mods. thuis is just eyeballing it ..so what does that mean. that means you could use an mr2t trans and bolt a transfer case on and make a 4wd celi. you could go even further and bolt a v6 in behind it. or a 3sgte either or..

in the next issue of SCC you will see a v6 powered mr2 owned by Brad Bedell he won the ultimate street car challenge this year with his v6 powered mr2. it is a solara engine with a TRD supercharger on it. runs very well. the v6 is actually about the same weight as the 3sgte which is a porker IMO> a big part of this is the trans however..it weighs around 125-130 pounds or so. the solara engine is aluminum block.

so i dunno if this helps anybody out there but it may give you some inspiration. replacing trannies on a regular would suck. a 4wd celi would rock. wish i had the cash to make it happen. i have the skills.. if you want to know more about the car in SCC then let me know i helped dude just before the contest to get things wrappped up. i think i gave moral support more than anything else but i know what has gone into the car so..i can elaborate some if people have specific questions. i have wrenched on more toyotas in my lifetime thus far than ??? i totally lost count its been that many. every combo maybe slightly diff so be patient and investigate all options before giving up.
