Here's one for someone to figure out, because i sure as hell can't and neither can the car audio place around here.
I have JL XR's in the front and rears. My rear put out some bass but my fronts sound like ****. They are so flat its not even funny. When i turn my subs off, its just so depressing and it really makes me think somthing is wrong with the spearkers.
So i went and purchased Morel Ovation 6's (850$ pair) to try them for a week and they told me i could bring them back if i didn't liek them. So i put them in.. listen.. .. i dont hear much of a difference. So i try chaing settings on my HU and on my 300/2. .. some difference but nothing major. .. . so i drive up to the store and they sit in my car and listein to it for all of 5 sec's and they tell me that somthing is really wrong. .. they should sound complete different. These speakers got reviews like "is this a 6 1/2 or a subwoffer?"
1. First we thought that phase was out, oddly it was correct on both speakers. But when u reversed the phase on one of the cross over's, it produced a little more bass, but as they said. . no where near what they should sound like.
2. We swap'd out HU's. No change.
3. We changed the speakers so they ran off my other 300/2. .. nothing different.
4. used a volt meter to check to make sure power was everywhere, yada yada yada.. . everything was fine.
Other then this i dont know why and what is causing this. . . is it just something with celica's or do other ppl not have this problem. when my friend mike had his quartz in his car, there wasn't much mid range bass either. so i dont really know. . .
can anyone help me. .. and i am ripping out my whole stereo anyways and redoing it. . . and try to figure this problem out .. but i really have no idea what is causing the lack of mid range bass. . ..

Did you use any dampening material in the doors???
This is a requirement when wanting the best sound you can get in a door... Remember, Low freq require a solid baffle (or box) to correctly reproduce the sound! Around the speaker and directly behind the driver needs dampening to aide reproduction of what you are missing.
Quick question.... Would you mount your sub to a thin sheet of metal and expect good bass???? I think not, so use the dampening material!!!!!!!

I am sure you have dynamated your doors. Make sure you mat the inner door skin as well as the door panel and cover up the large holes in the panel to try to seal the door off. Also use a .5 or .75 inch MDF baffle to secure your speakers to the doors. And upgrade your wiring to atleast 16 ga. wire and run it to your amps. I will be doing all this in a few weeks when I get my CDT hd z-series, I hope to get lots of midbass.

i have a JL 300/2 .. . i have a HO Alternator. . i have PLENTY of juice for them. .i was running two 10" W7's with a 500/1 to each of them . .. power isn't my issue i know that for a fact. but i will give a chance that i am wrong..but 300/2 is plenty of power

Well, with or without the damping on the doors, they should be putting out some good sound.
Those JL amps are nice amps, and since you tried two amps with the same issue, it shouldn't be the amps. I suspect a wiring thing.
How are you RCA's from the headunit running? Is it a different RCA for the front and rear amps? If so, try switching the RCA's, or run the front RCA to the rear amp, and the rear to the front. That way you can determine if the RCA is the problem.
Another thing could be a broken wire from the amp to the speakers. The speaker will still play with one wire connected to the speaker. You can call BS on me, but try it, they will still play. They sound like $hit, but they play.
If you are ripping the stereo out, start narrowing things down. Run a fresh RCA (a $2 one from Radio Shack would be perfect) from the headunit to the JL 300/2. See if it fixes the problem. If not, then, with the door panels removed, run some fresh wires from the amp to the door speakers and play them again. Hopefully this fixes it. You should have all the wires in plain site, and they should be all fresh runs. This should fix the problem. If not, then we might have to start narrowing other things down.

Connected new RCA's from the 300/2 to the brain of my screen.. and it still beat. . .
my speakers. . . . . wiring. . well i think this is the issue. . .when i had my 300/4 installed the wires that they ran were all blue.. u cant tell a difference from + and -. . . . well. . i just spliced the wires with connectors and used nice new color coded wire. . . well maybe the splice is messed up?/. . . . .
can i just run a wire from the postiive and neg terminal on the speaker directly back to the amp!?!?. . . .
it has to be a wire issue. . . it has to be. .

Now that you say that, I dare lay money that those speaker wires are messed up. And yes, I would just run a set of wires from the + and - of the speaker directly to the amp in the back of the car. Another thing you can do is find where each wire goes. Do you have an ohm meter? If so, take on of the door panels off and unplug that speaker. Then find the combination of those blue wires that gives you a 4-ohm load (if that's what the speakers are). Once you find it, then you know what speaker that is. Then label them. :) Then plug the other speaker in, and test those wires to make sure those also have a 4-ohm load.

dont ask me how, but it works now.. i swapped out my headunit and i hooked up JL 300/2's up and got my fronts and rear XR's running again . . . well now i have mid range bass and what not. . .
i have no explanation why it works now. nor does anyone else. . . we swapped out headunits at the store and it did nothing, and really alll i really did was hard wire the headunit into my car and now its all fixed. . . i dont know. . well anyways. . its fixed now :). .. time to have some more fun and some new fiberglassing :)

I would guess that somewhere in the headunit wiring the polarity was switched. Good to hear that the problem is solved. :)

I was praying to the car audio gods last night, maybe that's what fixed it. ;)
