as some of you know i recently got a radar detector (bell 985) and i've had it for about a week or so. with in this past week it has already saved me twice. acouple days after getting it, i was hit with a radar by an unmarked older modle crown vic going 50 on a 40 :gap:
i always hit 80-90mph as soon as i merge on to a highway and then i slow down to about 60. as i was doing so tonight, i was hit by a radar by a state trooper. even though i could not see him, he kept the radar on me for acouple minutes (following me) tring to catch me speeding :chuckles:
even though i dont' speed during 99% of the time i drive, i like to downshift and redline 2nd and 3rd gears once in a while (while driving on the highway). so please don't think i'm a speed junkie. that being said, i think this is one of the best "mods" i've done so far. hopefuly it will keep me outta trouble during the seaside meet
:: knock on wood::

between my friend and i, we've tried the top 3 detectors. i used the BEL 970 (similar to 985, a little better range, 3 year warranty, minus the voice feature) before upgrading to valentine. BEL is definitely a good investment.
problem is though.. after a while you get used to speeding while not hearing a beep. be careful when you turn it off or drive a car without a detector. :chuckles:

Just pay attention to the KA band. Some stationary radars (the one that shows you your speed on a sign) use the K band - but that's rare... If the Laser beeps, its too late.

yea i found that out. i get a whole lot of "X" band detection (which i should turn off??). should i just keep the ka and K bands on??

in city mode the X-band does not give an audio warning until severity hits 5 or 6. i used that. you can alternatively disable it completely.
i am not sure if 985 has a "tech mode" where it displays the freq. i used that. since that detector doesn't directly display multiple sources, viewing the freq can give you an idea. you can also associate freq #s to locations.
i like BEL for its distinct beeps for each band. on valentine, Ka and X sound pretty similar.

Having mike's for the time being makes me wanna get one for myself. It really does help out a lot, especially since I (like most people) go over the speed limit by about 10mph or more.
Mike... man... like Krysy said, you have no luck with that car. :sadwave:

turn off the "X" band and it will be 100x less annoying. then it will go off ONLY when it detects a cop radar
