Ok at high rpms, like around 7100 in 1st i hear a high pitched rattle, the rattle occurs closer to red line in all the other gears, any idea what is causing this?? Should i take it in under warrenty? its a 2002 gts with 2300 miles

bring it back to the dealer... may be dangerous

unless that is the sound of the Apex-i blow off valve from the turbo you forgot you installed :wiggle:

Need more details. Rattle from where?

My first guess is your car keys are rattling. How loud is it?

Auto or manual tranny, etc.

its a manual trans (gts) and its definantly not my keys, it sounds really high pitched rattle from under the hood, hmmm how do i describe the sound.....ok, well how bout this, it sounds like plastic would if it was vibrating on metal really fast. But i dont think its the plastic in my engine bay, its definantly coming from the engine itself. ANY IDEA, I should probally take it in huh.
I dont think i have lost any power...although it may be SLIGHTLY less power, but even too little to say for sure.

gts-jtown:

Would you say it sounds like a "chirping" sound, when you push the engine a bit?
I have that in my GT some times, but my dealer says they can't hear anything wrong.
Someone I know told me it could be from "too much air" being pulled through the chassis or airbox if it happens mostly when it's realwindy...now that explanation makes zero sense to me, BUT I HAVE noticed it started to happen more when the weather got real windy and rainy, and we haven't had any non-windy days since to compare. Again, it makes zero sense to me, but I'm no expert. What does anyone else here think?? oh, and jtown, I hope I at least helped in the describing of the sound if we do have the same thing.

Well it may not be your keys, but still check for anything in the center console box, armrest box, glove box, ashtray, cup holders etc. I've heard similar rattles coming from loose change and other small things in all these places. Sometimes the overhead "dome" light housing and also the shift lever can rattle like you describe at high rpms.

If after ruling out all these possibilities you are positive it is coming from the engine, you can take your car to the dealer, but they'll probably ask incredulously, "you rev it to 7100 rpms?!"

The first thing they should look at is the serpentine belt tensioner. This is a problematic part in pre 2001 1/2 model year cars. Toyota redesigned it for the most recently manufactured cars.
