ok so normal shifting i get (as well as i can from being deprived of a manual vehicle) - i think i understand double clutching where if you are downshifting from say 40 mph and can go from 4th to 2nd (just for an example) by blipping the throttle to match engine revs to ... (something related to the syncros my vocab is poor). so what is powershifting? are there advantages? does it help to minimize the lurch that ya sometimes feel when a person is driving a clutch and hasn't done it for very long? also, any helpful advice (other than go buy a short throw shifter once you learn to drive decent) for effective shifting when i finally get a manual? i know im jumping the gun considering i dont' have the car but im still curious ... thanks

Don't worry about power shifting. It's bad for your car. Just practice double clutching and heel-toe techniques. Let me know if you need full explanations on these.

How do you do the heel-toe method? I usually double-clutch on the downshifts and I want to try to learn the heel-toe.

Great, if you know how to double clutch downshift, then you can learn heel toe easily.
heel toe is essentially double clutch downshifting WHILE braking

that's all it is. The hard part is twisting your foot so you can hit the brake and accelerator at the same time. I think you know what I'm talkin about :)

i managed heel-toe on my first try on my friend's old corolla 5-speed :D and promptly informed him: "I JUST TEEL-HOEed!" heh.

i stalled and messed up every time after that until he made me stop before i broke something.
