well thanks to 100to5 for selling me his used tein SS coilovers i had a chance to try to put them on my 4wd matrix.

oh yea mike this was my "hush hush" project

well actually i took a 00+ celica Teins Super Street Damping system and put it on

i bought it use at a good price from a celica owner so he gave me the strut mounts too so i was suprising that the celica strut mounts work on our car. good way to earn money toyota.

the the rear slips on with no mods at all.

only the front had to be mod a bit. it's on hte bottom of the strut where the 2 HUGE bolts that holds on to the caliper and stuff (like my technical terms ) but yea i found out that our 22MM bolts are a bit larger than the celicas so i had to drill the hole out a bit. looks like a few MMs were taken out each hole.

ride quality. i LOVE them!!! should of have done these first than the dayam s-techs. not to hate on s-tech owners but it was not met to be on my 4wd. the rear end was way too soft for it and i bottom out on my plate that protect the rear axel thing.

so are there any questions?

oh am i'm the first one with a 4wd trix to do this?

oh if your wondering why i posted here about this, it's b/c i have to thanks those that help me with images of their rear suspension taht made me 99% certain that the celica suspension would fit.

plus to spread the word if you know anyone with a 4wd matrix that wants coilovers that there are some.

They may fit a Matrix, but they're not tuned for the Matrix's weight. The AWD Matrix is over 450lbs heavier than the Celica GT-S, so the suspension won't perform near as well as a coilover set made specifically for an AWD Matrix. If there aren't any coilovers for the Matrix yet, though, then the Celica's suspension is better than nothing. ;)

BTW, at least the Celica springs work on the Scion tC, too.

yea, it's better than nothing plus i found out is that the spring rates for the rear of the 2wd models are way too soft. so the higher rate is better. which was why my tein s-tech drop 2.8+inches in the rear instead of the reported 2.1 inches for the 2wd.

since i'm the first to take this step and report it i hope others will follow and report their findings.

plus i don't think any aftermarket would do anything more with our 4wd matrix. been out since 03 and i had to do this.

oh well i'm happy.

If you really feel like getting an optimal setup you could always try to send them back to TEIN to see if they could get a custom spring rate and valving for the shocks.

As a reference, I would see what kind of spring/shock rates TEIN uses for a wrx, since it weighs about as much as (and the weight distribution would be a little closer to) the awd Matrix
