consider this, the 93+ model year toyota supra wings created 66 pounds of downforce at high speeds ( i believe 100+ miles an hour) and that was a huge ass wing...
as far as i know ALL wings on street cars are mostly cosmetic...all show...

You should watch Option videos from Japan... I just watched one last night where they were running a Spoon Civic hatch on a circuit course with and without the rear aluminum race wing. Without the wing the car would spin out on the high speed turns. The wing kept it much more stable. There was even a minimized view of the run with the wing in the corner of the screen while the car was running without so you could see the difference in posture of the car as it entered the corner.
For driving most anywhere on a public street it's absolutely useless tho, unless you're driving really really fast.

The reason they dont work is because we have front wheel drive cars and if you bought a functional wing, at high speeds you would put more downforce on the rear tires, which takes away power and handling. So All of them are for show. And for them to be helpful, they have to be a certain height, usually around the roof line to pick up the "good" air.

I've seen this subject way too many times. Someone sticky this, or let's add it to an FAQ somewhere.
Let's get this clear... the function of a rear spoiler has nothing to do with the fu**ing drive wheels of the car. Nothing at all.
It's all about handling... I repeat, it's all about handling. First let's talk about road racing, since drag racing is a totally different ball game. The "simple" function of a rear spoiler in road racing is to reduce oversteer, or to put it differently, to add traction to the rear tires. True, this will help with corner exit in a rwd car, but so does weight transfer. This does not mean that a rear spoiler cannot be functional on a fwd car.
So why do they have huge wings in drag racing? Because they've got 6000+ horsepower and they're trying to accelerate to 300+ mph in about 4 seconds. Does a Mustang pushing 350 horsepower need a huge ass wing... I really doubt it. By the time they get to a speed where the spoiler begins to function, they really shouldn't have traction problems.
Now, to finally answer the point of the thread... I really doubt anyone other than a few people on this board need a rear spoiler on their Celica. It won't help you in drag racing, and I really doubt you're going fast enough to need it for cornering on the street. If you're road racing it will depend on the setup you're running and your driving style. In my experience the Celica has quite a bit of understeer, so a rear spoiler would just make things worse, but that's based on my street experience only. If you have a setup that produces oversteer during high speed corners, a spoiler could be of use.
So once again... there is no reason why a rear spoiler cannot be used on a fwd car. It's all about handling.
