I found a good deal for jic flt-a1... im really in the market for a set of coilovers... i was thinking tanabes Pro SS or tien SS... but this deal is crazy... 850 +shipping hows the ride quality? i heard the ride on jics is really harsh... I plan on tracking my car very soon...My car will be a daily driver/once in a while weekend track car ...so ride comfort is a factor as well...what should i get? any info will be appreciated

That's an incredible price. Are they new? All coilovers will be stiff, but they're usuall not harsh like if you're only riding around on lowering springs. I've been in cars equipped with Tein SS and SS-Ps, and they felt fine. The JICs have a lower spring rate than them, so they should feel a bit softer.

Those are the FLT-A1US which does not have the adjustable dampening. If you want a good ride for daily driving and agressive for track, then this is not what you want. You actually want the FLT-A2US, which has the adjustable dampening. $850 is a good price but its not the best.

I highly recommend looking into B+G S3 Coilover setup. I have it on my car and I love them. They have a Speed Sensitive Technology which automatically adjusts dampening depending on how agressive you're driving. If you decide you want these let me know. I can help.

i thought these do come with adjustable dampening... from what i have read from the jic website, they have 5 way adjustable dampening.... am i wrong?

i have a few other questions:

1) spring rates.... how do i read them and what exactly do they mean...

Description:

Jic -
Spring rates:
Front: 6 kg/mm
Rear: 8 kg/mm

Tein -
Spring Rates:
Front: 5 kg/mm, 280 lbs/in.
Rear: 7 kg/mm, 390 lbs/in.

2) if these are adjustable then these would be comparable to the tein ss but if they are not i would assume they are comparable to the tein basics....am i correct?

3) What prices do these usually go for ?.... i thought around $1200, thats y i thought it was a great deal

4) What is linear spring rate? i have read people using the term but dont quite understand it

thanx -minh

The JIC numbers are metric measurements of the stiffness. Tein gives you metric numbers, and then Standard or American.

I'm pretty sure 6 and 8kg/mm are the same as Tein SS-P (with pillowmount). Tein SS is without pillow mount and is 280/390.

I'm interested in B&G S3s. How do they compare in ride quality to Tein Basics? Whats the spring rates? how much much are they? Do they come w/ camber plates? Do you got any pics, installed on your car?

Doesn't linear spring rate mean that the compression force is the same through the full range of motion kinda like a straight line has the same value anywhere on it?

B&G S3 all the ,My reason? the speedsensitive dampening ,its stiff and Tight when you want it to be and soft and comfortable when you are just cruising ,B&G Put alot of money and thought/time into that technology and alot of people swear by it (VW,audi,BMW,porshe owners etc).Plus the price has gone down quite a bit on these High quality coilovers,

Now doesnt that sound alot easier than getting out of your car and adjusting dampening when you want to drive hard ,and want your car to have a race car feel?

Pm Richerd ,You can probablly get them for about the same price as JIC,Which is great considering retail is like $1600 or something like that?

And richard I think you Ment the Bilstein Coilovers with out the adjustable dampening

,I Decided on B&G myself but do not have them on my car Yet Take a look at any european car forum and you will see why these guys really love their B&G S3.Hope this helps?

I can get you guys B&G coilovers all day for $850. And yes, a lot of European car guys swear by B&G. And I agree with Kenny about changing your dampening all the time, who does that? Im gonna drive aggressive today so Im gonnna set my shocks to stiff. The B&G speed sensitive dampening is kind of like what higher-end MB's and other German cars have. I think the new Lexus SUV has it too, as it goes faster it stiffens up...

how does the Speed Sensitive technology work? does it actually work or is it just a special name B+G used for sumthing that most coilovers have? how did u get that prices? whats the spring rate and ride quality?

Dude the "speed sensitive technology" is a Patented Technology That NO OTHER coilover has But B&G S3. As B Performance said it is the same concept that the New Mercades Benz uses and a couple other HIGH END German cars, suppossed to be a difference of night and day when you start driving "aggressive" ,The VW guys say it turns into an all out race suspension when you want it to.I really think that the reason that B&G is letting these go so cheep for our cars is because no one buys them, I mean seriusslly try to find some one with these coilovers ,or who has owned them on the celica,It is next to no one,Yet The APR Widebody decides to go with them??? , Most people just go with something they can say is from Japan (caugh ,Tein ,Caugh) I mean most people are like "European Whats that ? "
even though the best handeling cars come from europe go figure?

can someone with these on their car please give a review and comparison... the reason im skeptical is that they sound too good to be true. Coilovers with technology to change damping as u drive, has pillow mounts, dual springs... i would think these would be more expensive. I am basically lookin for a set of coilovers for daily driving as well as racing (autoX, 1/4 mile, etc.) basically an all around coilover system. I plan on buying the end of august... just want as much info as possible. thanx guys so far for the info

Well.. I did a google for euro car forums, and did a search for B+G Coilovers on at least ten of them and I couldn't find any info on them. Can some one tell me the spring rates on them or point me in the right direction to find out this info? Its a little strange to me that this common info is so hard to find. Especically since they are so highly rated (in europe)

[i... i would think these would be more expensive.

-minh [/B]

when they were first released for our cars they retailed at $2400 (No lie) a couple old sites still have them listed as retail price that high. Then more Different "JDM" Brand coilovers came out ,and Then retail drops to $1600 ? which its at right now but you can get the S3 For our cars for a lttle more than half of retail ?Like i said I think its just because no one buys them for our cars cause we go with the "JDM" since are cars are from japan. And they got to get rid of old stock perhaps? But Yes If you look, B&G is THE largest Spring /Suspension manufacturer in the world ,Ahead of Eigbach (some one correct me if i'm wrong),its just not as wide spread threw out the states ?

Anywase, I did alot of research before i decided to buy my coilovers and when i came across the B&G S3 I just could not pass it up,hope this helps a little

Kenny,

How well do the B&G's hold up to crappy weather, since you're from WI? I know some of the JDM coilovers have problems with it, but it snows in Europe, so I'd guess maybe they hold up a little better?

how do these hold up on hard driving, autoX, and cruising?

I have no idea mine are not installed yet,My car also will not be driven in crappy weather, my car will never see any harsh weather period so it would be imposible for me to ever answer how well they will hold up under conditions.do some research that was one quality i did not care about and was not looking for.
