my rpm bounces wen i put my car on neutral

i'm going let say fifty on fith gear (around 2900 rpm), if i put my car on neutral the rpm drops and when it hits 1000 rpm, it bounces up and down to 1300-1000 rpm. however, it doesn't do that if i take it out of gear really fast and if i do this at 2000 rpm. if i do it anywhere else on the rpm it bounces. not once, but many times. like up, down, up, down... its pissing me off

Judging by the number of times this subject has come up, it is clear this is a very common thing with our Celicas. Mine does it too sometimes. No one has found that it is a problem or causes any damage to the car so far. Also, no one has reported this condition to be associated with stalling, so I wouldn't worry about it. My car bounces really low sometimes - to around 400 rpms on the tach but has never stalled. I assume it's the ECU just doing it's thing.
