Dose anyone know of a set of wires that can be used to send power to the shift indicator lights on the dash. I'm thinking of rerouting the reverse beeper to the reverse light on the dash. It appears that it's a more complex mod then just hooking up some wires on the back of the dash (combination meter). I've been able to find how it works with the automatic transmission, but a lot of that wiring is missing since I have a 6speed.

Thanks in advance for any info any of you can offer.

The combination meter lamps, that indicate the automatic transmission setting, are all controlled internal to the combination meter. The automatic transmission communicates with the combination meter to select the lamp to illuminate.

It is not possible to connect to a wire to cause these lamps to illuminate.

So...... is it not possible to hook something up in place of the transminisions communications?

Yes, simulating the transmission to combination meter communication is possible. Toyota does not provide any documentation which would aid in this task. My recommendation is to not do this!

There are two options to attain this goal.

One would be to create a circuit that talks with the combination meter. This would be very difficult! First the hardware interface would have to be determined, by experimentation and measurement. Then, the communication interface would have to be determined. This would require a vehicle with an automatic transmission, that is communicating normally with the combination meter.

The other would be to purchase the electronics board, from inside an automatic transmission, then fool it to think that the desired lamp should be illuminated. This solution may cause driveability problems, because it may cause systems to think that an A/T is present and affect performance.
