Where should the shock sensor be installed for a typical alarm system?

Shouldn't it be right against the body of the car so that is can sense any vibrations the best there?

My shop installed a compustar for me... but the shock sensor doesn't seem to work that good, i took a look under the dash and found that it was zip tied to the a pole that seemed to extend down from the steering wheel?!? Doesn't seem too effective to me....

HELP!

I put mine just n front of the clock. I thought it would be nice there cause it's fairly high up in the car (good for remote distance) and it's pretty 'central' in the car. Also, it's not far from many of the wires you need to tap and pretty easy to get to if needs be (ajusting sensor sensitivity).
