View Full Version : Anyone interested in renting me their Datalogit?

Ok, here's the deal:

I've been on backorder with Monkeywrench racing for about 4 months now (originally for the Power FC and Datalogit), now just for the Datalogit (I bought a used Power FC off NC.org). Monkeywrench has told me they have no ETA on the Datalogits.

After doing some investigation, they're right. Rotary Performance (Click Here (http://www.rx7.com/)) is the only company in the US that imports Datalogits. That's right, they corner the market on datalogits, and any other distributor is not a prime distributor, they get them through Rotary Performance.

After talking today with Rotary Performance, they said that FC Datalogit, based in New Zealand (Click Here (http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/)), who produces the Datalogit are a group of guys who do this on the side, in other words, this is not their permanent jobs. Although Rotary Performance has told the Datalogit group that the demand is incredible, these guys don't seem to care too much about it, and when they get to it, they make some. Normal shipments to Rotary Performance are about 15 units per shipment, and they are currently backordered with over 30 units. Rotary Performance has not seen a shipment for over 4 months. Unfortunately, Datalogit does not have a phone # and rarely answers emails. One RX-7 owner has gotten so desperate, that he is flying to New Zealand and trying to find someone at Datalogit to buy from.... Now, I'm not quite that desperate, but close ;)

All I want to do is rent your Datalogit for a dyno session in order to tune my PowerFC. I only need it for about a week, but I will need everything including the software to do this. I am willing to pay $100 for the week, and I will pay for shipping to me and from me. I have a FedEx.com account, and can send you shipping labels and the money. All you would need to do is box up the Datalogit equipment and software, tape on my shipping label, and drop it off at a FedEx site or Kinkos location.

If someone is willing to do this, I can provide any information about me you want (except SSN). I am well known on these boards, and I'm not trying to steal your Datalogit, I just have SCCA Nationals upcoming, and after this past weekend's base dyno in comparison to without the PowerFC, well, I need to tune it very badly ;)

If interested, PM me, or e-mail me at b1mmer@earthlink.net

As for those that can verify I am legit, PM: Nocones, Autxr, LoCore, KEnny Heiser 3, etc.... Thanks, Aaron

Man... you shoulda posted like 2 weeks ago. My car has been in the shop. :(

If you are willing to drive up here and have it dyno tuned, I'll let you borrow it for free.

uh oh...... I was about to order the FCDatalogit through MWR, but it doesn't sound like I'll be able to get it anytime soon. :( Is there anyone local in SoCal, who can rent it to me? I just want to make sure I am not getting too bad knock with my setup after I put everything in (a couple of weeks from now). I shouldn't need to use it long at all. Please, I'd really appreciate it.

I am going to have my setup dyno tuned and I have one for my 1ZZ, not sure if it will work for yours.
I am going to make an appointment with Church Racing in Torrance, his fee is $150/hour and my tuning should be around 2 hours (with custom turbo). If you want to go at the same time you have him use my datalogit to tune yours (if it works for both 1ZZ and 2ZZ setup). How about $50 to rent mine QTRMLR_1 :)
Actually if I can get Shawn to reduce dyno cost I'll let you borrow it for free ;)

That'd be awesome! :) Please PM me when you make the appointment so I can tell you if I can make it or not. I'll be gone for a couple of weeks in the near future so I wouldn't want to hold you up.

Is anyone doing dyno tuning in the near future in SoCal? I'd love to watch if you don't mind and absorb the process so I can save time when I do it.

The DLI box should be pretty universal. The only difference should be maps you use. I mean the PFC remains the same internally, it's just the harness slots that get swapped out.

I thought that would be the case, but I was not for sure so I did not want to get his hopes up. I think it just links to the PowerFC pull the original map in the PowerFC and then start manipulate all the settings, so this would mean it is universal and you can save all kinds of different maps in the laptop.

sorry I don't know, but is the software also the same between the 1zz and 2zz even though the 2zz has lift? Do these guys have a patent on the box or is it just some hack they don't put much thought into? Is it groundbreaking intellectual property or can the design be easily duplicated and manufactured in the U.S.?

I do believe they have a patent, it looks pretty good manufacturing from the outside... but I did not open it up so I would not know maybe it sucks on the inside.

Being a EE I had to open it up and look.

Not easy to copy as it is a 4 layer PC board with a programable microcontroller. To prevent copying the number was sanded off the micro and another IC. Based on IC packaging and connections to the pins it could be reveresed engineered, but it would not be worth the effort.

BTW I am still waiting for the updated SW for my datalogit. Anybody care to email me with it?

Ken
