Post counts are no longer.
This is to deter post-whores (those that post with no other intention than to up their post count).
Post-whoring was a waste of bandwidth, and unfortunately, caused the board to load up slower. Now that we are on a new server, Larry wants to prevent post-whoring all-together, in order to keep anything from slowing down this new server.
Wow...I can't believe I made such clear statements seeing that it is 6:15am where I am...............'night y'all.

Uh Oh, Chiggy on the rag again or something...laying the smack on Oldster??? That's just wrong man...if anyone on this board has a clear thought it's Oldster (and CHUI, but he's disappeared).
Chigster..relax baby, it's just one man's opinion that losing post counts sux! (make that 2 man's opinions)
Pro's of post counts: You can see who has invested time and energy into this board and have a reasonable feeling of "trust" (I use that term loosely) in that person if he/she has a high post count. Ie..most trolls get bored of posting sh!t and usually burn out quickly.
Con's of post counts: Often the post count is inflated by whoring, rendering that persons opinion potentially less valuable. I say "Potentially" b/c we have a few OT whores (FiFi, Nerf, Slasher, Marky to name a few) who also have lucid and valuable opinions when they venture to the other forums.
If LD felt that removing the post count will in some way help the bandwidth, then it is his right as owner to do so. i don't think it will ultimately be that useful as OT still seems as "full" as always. Additionally, most OT posts are text based and therefore require very little resources vs. the often picture based posts in other forums which require lot's (in comparison) of resources.
Anyway, CHILL...it's all gonna be OK! Deep breaths!

Quick computer question, if you ban my IP addy, is it just for this computer I'm on now?
post counts were not removed for bandwith issues.. I get tired of going and seeing posts like .. WHORE, whore +1..blah blah blah.. with like 50 replies.. its just retarded.. it does slow the site down, very minimal now as compared to before with the new software but you really couldnt tell who was knowledgable on here by their post count.. the only reason you know how is knowledgeable is by sticking around and reading posts from people.. and whose to say that someone doesnt register today and know more about the Celica than anyone on here, theyd have like no posts and a very new registration date.. everyone would yell and scream noobie at em and chase em away when they could be someone very helpful to all of you..just something to think about.. i did it, to put an end to the noobie wars..

1st, to Oldster... You may expect "more" from me but, am I not allowed to be human? This post pissed me off... I expressed that, timidly I might add... I'm just sick of the dissing and disrespect.
It's like the respect I used to get in EVERY forum I posted in previously to becoming an Admin, is now gone... I'm one of the oldest members on the site... I think I was the 53rd to register here or something but, Because I now have "Administrator" under my name, I get treated differently.... what's with that?
Larry, Static, and I don't deserve to get pissed on from every member who doesn't like a decission that one or all of us has made. Yet they decide to plaster their assumptions over the board, and proceed in calling us D***heads....
And we, as the respectable Admins are supposed to take the high road right? Well, not this time... 9 out of 10 times I do, and always have on this site, and NO ONE notices... but as soon as I dwindle into humanity, and fight back, I lose your respect... tell me that isn't slightly off-center of where it should be...
No disrespect intendid to you oldster, but I guess I'm not allowed to have any emotions on this site then huh...

It's alright Chiggy man, just relax my friend... I think everyone can lose it once in a while and people need to think before they talk/post. People sometimes love to rile up those in charge just to get a reaction and then criticize them.. whatever I say. IF thats what gets you off, then you have a sad life anyway. And if you can't handle the fact that sometimes even people in charge stand up for themselves.. then get with the program.
Basically (and unfortunately), everyone has an opinion.. but usually other opinions (that I don't ask for) matter as much to me as the dirt on the bottom of my shoe.

If you follow my status on the site, as long as you've been here Rolo, you'll notice I haven't gotten a bit "power hungry" since I've become an Admin at all... The difference from my moderators status til now is that, I don't have to request to ban people any longer...
I treat peeps no differently now, than I did two months ago... I am consistent in my feelings toward peeps on this board, and always will be...
I've banned two accounts since I became an Admin, and I haven't threatened to ban anyone (seriously anyway) since I've gotten the status... And one of the accounts I banned, was the return of a previously banned IP...
If you honestly think I'm power hungry Rolo, please provide me with proof, I'll gladly evaluate my stance as an Admin at that point...
Static, I agree... and as long as I can brush the dirt off, I continue to do so... but sometimes you step in mud... if you know what I mean...
Chiggy
P.S. I too am glad the post count is gone... it has certainly calmed the OT crowd down a bit...

Post counts.....good riddens. You couldn't tell the people that spents 95% of their posts answering ?s and making comments (ME) vs. the people who sat in OT and posted "popcorn" 50 times a day (Whores).

First, as I stated previously I thought your first response was over the top. It wasn't so much what you said as how you said it. It seemed to me like the kid on the playground who is going to take his ball and go home when things don't go their way. Reread your post and see if you can see my point of view.
You disappointed me with your first post, the respect thing came into issue with your "care" post. If you don't care about the opinion of the people on this board then you shouldn't have the responsibility or authority to moderate it. That applies to Static and his response also.
Lastly, noone should have the right to be abusive to the moderators or any other members of the board. However they should be instructed on the rules of conduct in a mature fashion with the consequences of their continued actions clearly defined. I would think that it would be better done in a PM or email.
Anyway, all of the above is strictly my opinion, I hope that you and Static rethink yours.

Unfortunately the "post whores" come with the territory. It is still better to make an initial effort to convert them into productive contributors. If that is not successful then the appropriate steps can be taken. This advice is not directed for the one time slammers who's intent is obvious with their first post, they can be gotten rid of in a more expeditious manner.
PS - I hope you meant duly as opposed to dully. :)
i dont think you can convert them.. cuz I think at one point in time most of them were very good members who contributed much info and then got bored with the board.. perty simple..

That is an angle I hadn't looked at before. It seems that the long term posters that I pay attention to are fairly consistent with the quality of their posts. Everyone will have an off day of course. I'm certainly not an old (as in length of time) member of the board but the things that frustrate me are:
1. Being rude just for the sake of being rude
2. Asking questions that are so hypothetical that there is really no answer available
3. Asking a question, getting it answered but not accepting it because it doesn't fit in with your preconceived notion or logic
4. Answering a question based on something you have heard with no real knowledge or experience and doing so without qualifying your lack of expertise
6. Old people who bust peoples chops for doing all of the above.......hmmm......forget this last one.
