Aside from that, it is pretty heavy, slow, and poor handling. "Looks somewhat fast"

I saw one going for a test drive on Saturday. I had my digicam in the car, too, but I couldn't get it ready fast enough. :(

I live right in back of a Hyundai dealer (used to be a Mitsubishi dealer) and they just got 2 new ones in. I haven't stopped in to take a close look yet, but they looked OK. Much better than the previouse style. Those headlights were just wrong. Plus they had a "sunroof" and not a "moonroof". It wasn't glass it was like the roof opened. Didn't like that. Did they fix that with this style? I'll have to stop and look.

All I can tell you is that the tiburon they sell here in US is much better quality than the ones they sell in Korea.
For some reason,
Hyundai will use cheap asss materials for cars they will sell in Korea and vice versa for US.. Shiet aint fair.. why cant Hyundai be like Honda or Toyota.. Japan gets better versions and we get the ****ty one... all detuned and shiet...
Tiburon US version is much stronger than da one in Korea.. of course Korea aint got no wide open road for u to punch it anywayz.. you will be lucky to push 90mph shiet....:gap:

I don't know what everyone is flaming. Looks are a personal thing, but I think people are underestimating the car. SCC added the new Tib to their 8 great rides and if you checked the dynos, it's an impressive powerband.

I had the XG300 in for an oil change recently and got a good look at the new Tib...looked pretty damn good to me. Especially the rear view as static pointed out. Inside was roomy and seemd to be put together pretty good too. To each their own...

Here's SCC's Eight Great Rides review of the new Tiburon: HYUNDAI TIBURON GT V6
http://sportcompactcarweb.com/images/0402/tiburon_01.jpg
A sports car from Hyundai? Believe it, it's true. This car is up to the task.
Eight Great Rides awards go to cars that peg our fun-per-dollar meters and the new Tiburon snaps the needle. A ground-up redesign for the '03 model year has brought the Tiburon to performance levels we never expected to see from the Korean carmaker.
Where the previous car was soft and soggy, this car is hard and well damped. It's as if Hyundai told its engineers to build a sports car, and told the lawyers to go to hell. The chassis is that good and the engine isn't far behind.
The Tiburon shares its aluminum 2.7-liter V6 with Hyundai's Santa Fe and Sonata. Generally, non-dedicated sports car engines used in sports cars are a bad idea, but this one works pretty well for one simple reason--Hyundai sourced a dedicated six-speed transmission. It allows an enthusiastic driver to keep the engine on boil in most any driving condition, including the hardest driving we could give it. What's more, the Tiburon impressed us most during ten-tenths driving, which is where many cars at this price point fall apart.
We took it to our favorite mountain road with another Eight Great contestant for a head-to-head battle. The winner would make the list.
And the Hyundai, after only a few minutes of flogging, was the clear victor.
With massive grip, thanks to its sticky 215/45ZR-17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires and very little body roll, the Hyundai's composure was as impressive as it was unexpected. The harder we drove the Tiburon, the more Hyundai's performance goals became obvious. It's good at going quickly. Blast into a corner with way too much speed? Nothing a little trim with the brakes mid-corner won't cure. The Tiburon's response to trail braking and/or left foot braking stands out as one of its finer handling points. Handling is also characterized by heavy damping, which results in very well-controlled body movement and excellent stability over uneven roads and at high speed.
It's clear the Tiburon's dynamics crew worked overtime dialing in its uncompromised suspension. While it relies on traditional hardware--struts all around--to get the job done, it does it remarkably well.
This performance character is what put it among our Eight Great this year. It clearly outshines cars that previously weren't even considered its competition. It's now one of the best sport compacts for the money. Just don't tell the lawyers.

Cheap, strong power......personally I like the Mustang-looking sides and Supra-like headlights.....
I'd consider one if money was an issue come buying time again. Otherwise.....WRX....here I come.

The sides kind of look like shark fins, fitting for the cars name.
I would consider it, but likely never buy it.
I wonder how it compares the the 3rd gen Eclipse? Well, I guess it made the list and the Eclipse didn't. Bummer for the Eclipse guys!

Oh and they claim 180hp but dyno at 140... Isnt that a little optimistic of them? (like nissan)
*Edit* Oops disregard what i wrote. i read that wrong. Bluebomber switched the order of torque and hp. hehehe.. its late for me. :D

It's not a high rev I-4. Look at all the V-6s coming out of detroit, and they look similar (without S/C, that is..)
Lots of low end grunt, nothing up high.
I don't think there is any variable timing on the V-6, so maybe there's some room to shift that band with cams or headwork.

ehh....
my car makes power up to 5600 and prob beyond but the rev limiter kicks in before i can get a peak value...thats just with headers, h a pipe and duals..
what matters is the cams and exhaust ports/valves this car has, as a drop off like that i highly doubt is just froma clogged up exhaust.. i wouldnt be surprised that when you open it up to find the exhaust side pretty small to promote torque, since this engine was just dropped in there from their mini van, and i dout they did many changes to it, if at all.

the dumb part is:
veilside made a kit for a car produced for 2 years... and not many people like those tiburon's

A friend of mine bought one (its coming in April) anyways, he got the V6 GT model, and paid like $2k less then I did for my GT with C package, and got a lot more options then me.. IMO its a pretty decent car, I was considering buying it when I was out car shopping (but went with the Celi :D) anyways, they aren't all that bad, but I'm not sure about the Hyundai quality cause I don't know anyone that owns a Hyundai.. Plus I think the celica looks much better, and I really prefer the smaller 4cyl cars, I didn't get a Tiburon. Its a better deal then the Celica, but I think the celica is a much better looking car, and you can't beat the Toyota quality.
just my 2 cents

it trapped at 88mph and ran a mid 15..at 88mph you arent really getting much past a 15.4 or so..
so its not a barn burner, but itll hold its own respectably..honestly this car compares very well the v6 mustang 5 speed from the 1/4th numbers an dsimilarity in the exhaust restrictions.
i can not wait to see pics of the head they used..i wanna see those exhaust ports!
