View Full Version : PFC and Side Air Bags support?

hey guys, I was wondering if the PFC supports my side air bags on my 02 GTS. If I put in different seats and must unplug the cable, will it cause the whole air bag system not to work? Will I have to do the resistor mod as required for the stock ecu?

interesting question.

im pretty sure they will work I have side airbags in my seats as well, and there is no SRS light on.

thanks...just curious...but I was just asking because I thought even if there is no light it doesn't mean it will work...it could just mean it's not supported. That is unless the air bags aren't controlled by the main ecu at all and instead by an independent module somewhere else in the car.

on another question, I yanked out both the front driver and passenger seats w/ side air bags to do work on my car (passenger out for race), and since then the SRS symbol has been on. I know from threads on NC that my whole air bag system MAY be disabled. Some have suggested that the only way to reset the light is to have Toyota do it or to do the resistor mod to permanently disable the side air bags, in the event where one wants aftermarket seats.
I called Toyota of Pasadena and they said I just need a scanner (which I have) to reset the light. I don't think this is true as I have used my scanner to clear the CEL, but there was no effect on the SRS light. Can anyone tell me how to reset the light without going to Toyota? Is it a matter of pulling a fuse? I think I noticed a SRS fuse in the user's manual.

You need a Toyota scan tool to reset it. hit me up with a PM - we can hook up some night next week and I can clear it for you.

and the SRS system has its own ECU - its not controlled by the Engine ECU.

I talked to a Toyota service manager and he said that as long as everything is plugged in then the light should go off...no reset necessary. So he said I have an open circuit somewhere. I think the cause of the SRS light may be my disconnected seat belt pretensiors since I have racing harnesses. I have completely removed all of the seat belts in my car. According to the owner's manual the seat belt pretensioners also trigger the SRS light as this circuit is monitored by the SRS ecu (there's also a seatbelt on this guy on the dash). So it looks like I have to find the resistance of the seatbelt pretensiors and pop resistors in. Anyone know the resistance offhand? Thanks...
Since the seat belt pretensiors look like they're on a different circuit than the airbags from the owner's manual, my airbags will probably still work I'm thinking...

Hey I really need to get mine reset and I really dont want to pay Toyota $80 to do it. The only reason mine is on is because I unplugged some wire harness when i was installing my alarm and i had the key turned on. I plugged it back in and tried leaving the battery unhooked for a day and i still have a solid air bag light. There is nothing wrong with my airbags so from what you guys said before it should go off but it hasnt in the past year so i dunno what to do. Does anyone have a link to this resistor mod for just the side air bags? Im interested, also when you say it disables them permenately I hope you just mean permanetly while the resistor is plugged in? I could always hook a switch to it or something. Thanks for the help.

PS if anyone in AZ has the scanner let me know, or if your going to SEMA nov 2-5th let me know and we can meet up.
