Since no one liked the SVO mustang idea as a GS sleeper, I thought I would keep it in the family.
82-86 Toyota Supra.
Obviously this car is not properly classed, afterall, every one knows that every new model Supra was faster (in all performance catagories) than the same model year Corvette.
82 Corvettes are in BS, so that means the Supra is a BS car and should dominate in GS.
Anyhow, the 5MGE develops good torque at low RPM, RWD with available LSD, about a 50-50 weight distribution, and weighing in at about 3000 lbs, it ought to be a real contender.
The 14x7 wheels are about the biggest plus, except you can't get 245 width race rubber in 14" sizes...
The 2nd gen Supra (3rd gen Celica) chassis is also know for very sloppy rear suspension geometry and very soft bushings. The result is 7th gen Celica like oversteer in transitions, exacerbated by putting power to the rear wheels...
OK, so maybe it's a has been. Still I'd love to own a mint one to try and make it work.
Hmm, just noticed, the 3rd Gen Supra is also in GS. So long as the LSD was an option on the non-turbo models it might fare better. Power is up (a lot, 200 hp, 187 ft. lbs), suspension is MUCH better, but weight is up (3400 pounds), now you can run HUGE tires though, with the 16x7 wheels 245 rubber is a reality.
