Seems like all the other cars and trucks they have are getting forced induction except their "performance cars." Even the Tacoma 4cyl have S/C's now.

That's because all the hillybillys really really need those S/C's for their trucks
That makes me luaph .. and feel like i gotta punch the manager for TRD because of that article.
OOOOO if i ever get close to TRD usa headqurters ... ill bust in there meeting .. stop them from making a turbo for there hilander, and personaly slap em all!!!

Did you take notice to what is on the pages following. TRD supercharger for something other than the Celica. I forget if it was an SUV or a car. But they had an ad for the Corolla. Where's our sh!t!!! Body kits and brakes don't cut it anymore. We want parts. Everyone and thier brother has an exhaust.

I totally agree. However, I always thought that you believed that we had enough performance aftermarket parts?

hahahah, that might knock some sense into them. One day the CEO would be sitting in his chair throwing darts at a picture of a celica, when all the sudden he looks out of his window to see 50 celica parket and angry owners thorwing air filters at the windows. If somebody goes, take some pictures.

I could totally picture that. The head of TRD is probably some middle-aged pot-bellied moron with no idea what the sport compact phenomenon is all about. Of course, he'd think he'd be able to get away from all those furious Celica peeps by jumping in his supercharged Tacoma. Too bad that it would flip over at the first turn he made!!!

Haha, I thought that last line was photoshopped until I saw it in my SCC today. :D

I thought the same damn thing when I saw it in SCC too. Everyone knows except TRD.

I don't see what the hangup is with TRD. Why are people so concerned about them? People aren't that concerned about NISMO or Mugen. I mean, even if TRD were to come out with parts, they'd probably be really expensive. The main advantage I could see is if other companies followed TRD's lead and came out with affordable stuff.

Actually, even TRD knows that they ain't getting the job done! It is admitted in a short article in Super Street that I read recently. When I get home, I'll post the article name and page number where this is said.

they're wrong. it DID do something for the celica.
you get that special panasonic edition celica in canada with the paintjob a ripoff of the F1 car. :D
obviously enough, they're not out to develop parts through F1, that's what the drag racing thing was for (and whether it was a success or a failure remains to be seen, they have the parts, will they release them?).
now the drag celica is just to build up a rep for racing toyotas.
the f1 program is the same thing. i bet they're planning a new sports car, along the lines of a supra or 2000gt successor (or maybe both in one  ) soon and this will help them get a better image and attract more attention. maybe they woke up and realized their average demographic was like 50 or something while Honda monopolized the 'street racer' demographic that is showing it has a voice (and a wallet) and prospered from all the good marketing/publicity of a successful Formula 1 program in the 80s.
BUT toyota is in it for the win and the glory and is doing a damn good job of it. that's my favorite thing about the company (worst being how unfriendly their cars are to aftermarket modification and the crap dealerships), they set a goal, and meet it or exceed it. and they have cool goals. they made a great sport compact in the celica and are now out to compete in the world's most elite motorsport series. SPEAKING of which, Allan McNish, finished 3rd in the practice session today for the brazillian grand prix! Behind a McLaren-Mercedes and a Williams-BMW, and ahead of the other mclaren/williams and both ferraris. damn!
Maybe Honda should stop training newbie engineers in F1 first, their engines will turn out better

This from the April 2002 issue of Super Street, on page 206. The article is named BRAKE STUFF: TRD SHOWS THE NEW CELICA SOME LOVE WITH A BIG-BRAKE KIT.
"As of late, the Celica has been feeling very sad because of the lack of love it's been getting from the aftermarket world. Even the Toyota Racing Development guys know that they've been neglecting the Celica and apologize. That's why the company came out with this new big brake upgrade as a peace offering to all the Celica owners out there..."
Super Street goes on to say:
"In the future we'd like to see a nicely designed turbo kit..."
Yes, everyone and their mother (including TRD themselves) knows that TRD sucks ass.

i think it's toyota's fault. the only reason the RSX is getting attention is cuz of history from easy to mod honda cars/engines. otherwise nobody would even touch it (like the celica).
they came out with a great, complex marvel of engineering that's great right out of the box but they didn't factor in that everyone (including themselves) would have so much trouble modifying it.
if they just gave us a VVTL engine (no -i) with exhaust manifold in front, and a standard 5-speed ripped off from the ITR, we'd be swimming in all sorts of parts by now.
but would that be any fun? sure, after you modded it...not before. and market's bigger for latter right now. average people don't mod.

Remember Toyota is coming out with a new division, Scion. They're going to be sold at Toyota dealerships, they won't have their own. Scion is supposedly going to be targeted towards younger buyers, cars with "new and attractive features." Aka Celica, Matrix, RSC (if it ever comes out), may all be Scions in the next generation. Hopefully Scion will have more of a focus on the import scene, and hence give us better aftermarket support. But i just checked their site today, www.scion.com and the two cars i saw were FUGLY. I've decided that by the time they have a FI kit for our cars, it will be for the next generation celica.

By the time TRD has a Forced Induction kit for our cars, most people of this board would be thinking of their next car............Evo VII, 350Z, RX8, RSX..........so many to choose.
