Finally got my GT into competition on Sunday. Hard to complain about the results...top PAX by 1.2 secs.

The car felt great. I did manage to spin it (well almost...I came to a complete stop perpendicular to the course). It drove as expected...I really couldn't tell any difference btw it and my GT-S (except, of course, for the lack of cam switchover...which would have happened probably twice).
Unfortunately, only time for 3 competitve runs...fortunately I got 2 fun runs in, too. One of those I managed to get down into the 63's.
Finally I got a warm enough day to get a little wear on the Ecsta v700's! I thought they performed well, given the grit, gravel, and inconsistency of this particular surface.
No regrets on the trade!

Well done. It's always nice to see a Celica at the top of the board.
Out here in Northern California, we had Celica's really high at both local events: 1st in PAX for pr0file at the SCCA event, and I took 3rd overall and 3rd PAX at the NASA Event.
Good weekend for Celicas out here.

GS looked soft on that day -- a Saturn and a Probe in 2nd and 3rd? :) Great job, Bryan!
Again, I wonder why the GT-S went to DS when it only hits cam-two a few times during an autocross, and has no other advantages over the GT.

I certainly won't claim that it was the strongest competition, but a win is a win!
However, the guy in the Saturn is actually quite good. He beat me (in the GT-S) on raw time in one event last year.
I think I had a very good day and he had a pretty bad day.

The other difference between the two models is that the GT-S has rear disc brakes, GT has rear drum brakes (are the front brakes the same size on both modelsl?) Doubt it adds up to much in the end, but the GT does great in GS as it is, I imagine if the GTS was in GS as well it would only be tougher for everyone else... remember, there always has to be cars that are at the bottom of every class.
And just to save everyone the effort, remember autox is 90% driver. Unless you are going to nationals, if you're not competitive in DS its because of the driver not the car (note that I'm not competitive in DS... yet).

At the Ft. Myers Tour event my GTS ran a raw time within 0.05 seconds of the Type R piloted by Tom Birchard - the runner up at 1999 and 2001 nationals.
Unfortunately...
1) I wasn't the one driving (NoCones was).
2) NoCones didn't hit no cones on the run (rather, he hit one cone).
3) Rick Cone was 0.6 seconds faster on the same course in his GT, only he hit no cones.
Anyhow, it goes to show that the GTS can possibly keep up on the right course (with the Type R that is, the GT is faster than both...)

@#%!#$^$#! cone!
I think there might be a 0.8" difference in front rotor size btw GT and GT-S. That minor difference along with the rear drums back where there isn't any weight anyway doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
As a GT-S to GT convert, my current opinion is that the 2 cars capabilities are equivalent.
B1mmer...maybe on 4/28 we can get some fun runs in your car vs. my car on either the same or comparable tires?
