I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Phase 1 of the Evolution School in Irvine on Friday, March 22nd.

Key to driving: LOOK AHEAD, SMOOTH OUT THE CORNERS, MINIMAL HAND MOVEMENTS ON THE WHEEL!!!!! I've always heard this over the years but never actually applied it as I did at the school. What a difference. I came within 3/10ths of a second within my instructors, Scotty White and Joe Goecki.

I am more excited than ever to go to the next event at Norton AFB on April 6-7th!

I saw quite a few of your cars at the ProSolo. Recognized the white GT immediately, Allan!

Did you drive your 240Z or the Celica at the school? I took the March 16th CSCC school at Hollywood Park and wow it made a huge difference. At practice the next day I beat one of my instructors and was only 1.5 seconds behind the other, Jo Ann Lynch in her ZO6 Corvette. And less than 2 seconds behind fast time of the day by George Lynch in the same car. Usually I'm at least 10 seconds behind the Super Stock cars.

I realized that since moving to LA looking ahead has become looking only about two carlengths away. Driving here is so unpredictable, I can't look too far ahead or I'll smash into someone that cuts right in front of me. Driving here is like running an autox course where the cones are moving themselves around randomly. I was shocked that I wasn't looking ahead at all on the autox course and also by what a huge difference it made when finally I did.

Edit: I think taking a class is perfect for someone who has autoxed a few times and wants to improve. There were a few people there who had never done it before and I it might have been too much information to process at once. One guy in my group was still getting lost on course at the end of the day. Doh!

I drove the Z. The Z is a more competitive car in BSP than the GTS is in DS. So, this season, it's all about the Z!

Jo Ann and her husband are very good drivers. I was crewing at a road race the weekend you took the school.

Keep coming out to the events, you'll only get faster!

Umm...Dara I thought you were at the GrandAm that weekend? Where did you see my car? (I drove so bad, I wish I could have been invisible that weekend...hehehe)

Anyway, due to our lost of an airfield site in NorCal. There won't be an Evolution school locally. I always thought the $200 was a bit expensive until I took the class last year. I learned plenty of driving in one day! I might go up to Seattle during the summer and take Phase 2.

The school was on Friday the 22nd. I swear I saw your car there Friday afternoon!!! On my school breaks, I hung out with Tom Smith (he drove a white ITR) and was chief of workers.
Wasn't your car parked sideways? Meaning while most cars were parked in a north-south direction, yours was facing east-west. It was the only white GT I saw that day.

And, I sure did go to the Grand Am on Saturday. It was freezing cold and there weren't too many cars. Suppose it was because Sebring was the weekend before.

I will definitely go to Phase 2 when it comes out. I'm sure our club will host another Evolution School soon, since Phase 1 was booked solid and everyone's excited about Phase 2.

Nope, sorry I wasn't there, I wish I was. If I was there, I would have searched for you and say 'Hi'. Next time.

Oh, Alfausto Astillero wants to buy your Nitto tires from you. If you need his e-mail addy, I have it.

Wow, small world!!!! He was very nice to me at the school. He lent me some segments to label my car. I told him that I have plenty of 14" tires in the trailer from road races on ANOTHER Z car that only get used after two weekends then they're throw-aways. They're Toyos mounted on Panasports and will be happy to have a new owner! I only use 15" wheels for autocrossing. Send him my email addy!

Thanks!
