View Full Version : Koni's installed - WOW!... and a few questions

Got my Koni's installed today... only tested them on one corner but they felt really great! The ride is noticeably harder though, noticed a lot more fluctuations in the pavement on the way home than normal. Can't wait to try them out at an event!

Anyways, I remember the discussions from a couple months ago about adjusting the rears, and after ripping my panelling apart tonight, I see the dilema. Did anyone ever find a good solution to this? I have an idea of what to do, but I won't have a chance to try it for a couple of weeks...

Second question, does anyone else's ride _a_lot_ higher in the rear? It seems like my rear end was raised by about an inch... is that permanent, or is there some kind of break in period (please be the latter :) )? The spring perches are as low as they can go already.

Thanks for any info...

We measured mine before and after and there was no ride height difference, not appreciable at least (might have been a few mm lower in the rear).

My solution to adjusting the rears was to cut a hole in the panel, and everyone is using a Craftsman wratcheting box en dwrench (9 and 10mm combo with the innards of a adjusting tool mushed into the 9mm end.

The raised ride height will show up every time the car is jacked up, due to the internal high pressure gas charge and valving of the shock. Any loading or movement of the suspension should bring it back to normal. I especially notice it in the rear, as it stays at almost full droop when the car gets lowered back down. It's a common Koni glitch/feature.

I'd like to see a pic. I have a hard time imagining what it looks like.

So, as an epilogue for everyone who was on the edge of their seat waiting to hear what the problem was, I figured it out last night. The spring perches are on UPSIDE DOWN. I think that will completely fix the problem, it looks like flipping them over will lower the car about an inch, back to stock height. Should put some negative camber back in to the rear wheels to (see other note). On a related note, would i need to get the rears aligned again, or is there any easy way to check the alignment myself (aside from eyeballing it?).

Sorry but you will need to get at least the rear re aligned. Our rear suspension changes a lot when the ride height changes.

nxracer, is that round thing the adjustment tool that comes with the shocks, or is that something you made yourself?

I made it myself but the round part of the adjuster works too.
