need help finding good alarm w/proximity sensor

anyone know where to get a good deal on an alarm with proximity sensors? also what brands are good? I don't want a real expensive, but not just any cheap alarm. just a good realiable one. i'm also looking into a pager.

I got a price quote from a local audio shop, and they want to sell me a Avital (cant remember the right name)alarm with remote start, auto window roll up, power locks, proximity sensors, and a pager for $548. Is that a good price for that alarm?

I have found the Viper (DEI family of alarms) (no surprise there) to be the most reliable and cost effective alarms out there. I have owned a variety of alarms in my vehicles ranging from Avital, Code Alarm, and Clifford. There are more parts, accessories available for the Viper and service is available anywhere. I bought mine at a circuit city because I travel a lot and if it breaks I can take it to the closest CC in that state. My recommendations for choosing your installer is to request that the shop manager make the install. They are always MECP certified.

Oh by the way, why are you going with a Prox? Everybody I know has shut theirs off after two weeks. They go off all the time and it gets really annoying really quick!!!

thanks for the info GhostCelica. i appreciate it. the reason I'm looking for a proximity sensored alarm is because my car was messed with this passed week. it looks like they stabbed it with a screw driver or something. well, I don't have a garage or drive way, so my car is always parked on the street in front of my house. that's why I want a proximity sensor. Also I need the pager cuz I usually cant hear my alarm go off cuz my room is toward the back of the house.

If your car is parked in the driveway, thats one thing. If your car is parked on the street, everycar that drives by will set that alarm off. The only successful application of a prox I know of was my friends Spyder. He liked to leave the top down all the time so they installed it and turned the sensitivity down all the way. If you turn the sensitivity down all the way in your coupe you will have the same protection as your two stage shock senser. My advice is to try the two stage first because it comes with it. If you need additional security add it later.

The pager is a good idea. I do not have one, but I hear they work great.

don't they have proximity sensors that will give a warning first, then if they stick around too long it will go off?

I will ask someone about it. I am not sure about two-stage Prox sensors. The prox might communicate with the two stage shock sensor.
