man I damn near **** myself on the way to work last night.. it was dark and raining like a mo.. I took this back road becuase I was running late.. I go up a hill, around a corner, and then a steep drop deep down.. Im going down and can barely see 5 feet infront of the car when all of a sudden I hear this noise.. SPLASH.. holy **** half the front of my car went under water.. I pushed the clutch in and threw it into neautral.. and the car quickly went right though and to the other side.. of the dip and back up.. I put the car back in gear and drove off scared to death that I coulda obsorbed too much water.. Then I remember.. AHH, no cold air intake.. thank god :)..haha.. that was some freaky ****.. this thing had to be atleat 2-3 feet deep and about 8-10 foot long puddle..

Give the man a car jacket for his ride. Larry put some life jackets under your car......problem solved. What is it with you and water anyways?

That's exactly why I'll never get a CAI. You never know when you'll be caught up in a severe thunder storm and inadvertently
run through a deep puddle.

Yeah, that didn't help me last june. I didn't have a CAI and I got hydrolock anyway. Course then the car floated away the next day, but that's an entirely different story...

haha the same **** happened to me last night almost too, and i have the original injen CAI on there. there was some CRAZY rain last night. you could hear every drop hammer the car.

the water splashed up over the hood but i saw it coming and was off the gas and groping for the key to turn off the ignition but it happened too quickly.

the car made it out fine. i'm still not sure if any water went in or not, but i let it idle for a bit when i got home. there wasn'y any misfiring which is good (that's what happened last time)

thankfully i have a real dirty filter on there. so it filters better. i just need to reoil it now.

Larry,

You really should consider dumping the car and getting into power boating instead! Just think, in many areas you can go as fast as your engine and nerves can handle, and not having to worry about ending up in the water...you'll aready be there. ;)

Glad your car is still good but if you remember I hydrolocked a stock Camry in 6"-1' of water the water wake didn't even get above the Lights when I hit it. but Slurp the engine took in a lot of water....

Larry, you got lucky. I got my 95 TSI AWD stuck in water. It looked like a puddle, so I drove through it, wound up being a little deeper than I thought. It died in the middle, I had to get out and push it out of the water. Put it this way, when I opened the door to get out and push, the interior took on quite a bit of water was well. I felt a few zaps while pushing. The car was bone stock, so no CAI. So I pushed it to the side of the road, and went back the next day, started up after trying for like a half hour, but ran like total crap. Brought it to the dealer and they straightened it out for like $600.

Hey, at least I can laugh about it.

That car was soo sweet, I bet you're loving that eclipse, too bad my TSI broke down every other day and I had to dump it. I don't regret it though, I love my celi as well.

you dont really put CAIs on turbo cars.. the piping wouldnt be easy on my car and I guess the difference in power isnt worth it.. im looking into cutting open my hood and making a scoop to the filter.. kinda like a ram air setup

You have an intercooler, so putting a CAI will not be a big improvement. You'd be better off upgrading the intercooler. The small temp decrease you'd see from a CAI on a turbo car is overshadowed by increase in air temperature you get when it runs through the compressor.

the only reason Ive thought of moving the filter to a CAI sorta is to get rid of the heat soak the filter must experience being soo close to the engine.. but I think eventually Ill find a way to build a heat box like Weapon R was making for the Celica..
