whats that burning smell?!?!

ok guys... im no mechanic, but when you drive in reverse there isnt supposed to be a burning smell... am i correct? it totally smells like my clutch is burning up... it also sometimes does it when i start on my takeoff... are these just crappy clutches or has it been so long since ive driven a manual???

me and quite a few people in our atlanta celi club all have horrible smelling clutches, i think it's a pretty common problem with our cars. it does get really annoying though, i hope the trd one won't be as bad if i ever get it.

It's wierd. My clutch would always used to stank really hard if I launched high in a race, or slipped the clutch a little too high during normal driving. my friend who was in a car behind me would smell it too.

After about 10k miles, it doesnt let off the stench anymore, unless I really toast the clutch, and when I do, the smell brings back memories of when I first started driving the celica.

I know what you're talkin about as well. I just recently started drivin stick again when I got my GT. I sometimes put a lil too much clutch and can smell that burning stench. After a while it doesn't smell anymore...

Well i am glad to find its not just me cause i noticed it doesnt take much slipping to get the burning clutch smell.

good god... now i dont feel so retarded... anyone know of a good aftermarket clutch i could use?... also... my gas feels kinda vague... do these cars just have no torque, or do i need to get my cables tightened or what?!?!
