I know this is a Celica site but I thought I would post this here seeing there are a lot of Celica owners (like myself) that are selling their Celicas for bigger and better cars. This is my personal review of the Dodge Magnum R/T, enjoy.

So Yesterday Stacey and I went to the Dodge dealer to test-drive a Magnum and get our free $75. When we got there they had about 5 Magnums on the lot, 1 plane jane, 2 SXT's and 2 HEMI R/T's. The dealer tried to show us the SXT and I said NO, I want to drive the R/T and so it was.

To start off, it was a black one with full leather and power everything. The seats are extremely comfortable and a long trip would be no problem in them. The back seats are roomy even for a 6'3" guy like me. I had a lot of headroom and shoulder room in both the front and back. The front had really nice heated seats -and something the next car we get must have- duel climate control. On the test drive I had the A/C turned all the way down and she had the heat all the way up and we were both perfect.
The rear windows are another thing that the both of us loved, they went ALL the way down! How nice. No more bullshit "child safety" windows that only go half way down and piss everyone off.

The trunk was HUGE! I could have stored a lot in there for a long trip. There is space under the mat to store stuff, then there is little storage bins on both sides for stuff and then there is the main floor. It

No. They have only had one and sold it a while back and the $75 dollar offer was for the Magnum only. Plus I don't know if the woman, our daughter and her car seat and myself could fit in the SRT-10 :chuckles:

The Magnum is one of the very very few domestic cars I would maybe consider thinking about probably buying.

The rear windows go all the way down because the door is about 3 times bigger than the window. The window is like 12" high.

while I like the F-150's body style more I still think it looks good especially in black or silver. It's a full size truck, it's going to be on the heavy side.

You're right... in about a couple of years I plan to trade my Celica in for a better car, but please...

The last thing I would consider is a 3900lb Dodge hurse-mobile. That things looks like it came straight from HBO's Six Feet Under program.

I wouldn't mind checking out a domestic such as the next Mustang Cobra (as long as it's dohc), I can choose at least 10 other rides I'd rather have than that freaking dumptruck you're talking about. And I'm listing automobiles in general, not speed or performance.

For $32K or less:

1: 350Z
2: Subaru WRX STI
3: Infiniti G35 Coupe
4: Mitsubishi Evo 8
5: Cadillac CTS
6: Jaguar X-Type
7: Chrysler Crossfire
8: Mazda RX8
9: Acura TL
10: Volkswagen Golf R32
11: Toyota 4 Runner Limited
12: Audi A4 3.0
13: Nissan Maxima
14: Nissan Murano
15: BMW 325
16: Saab 9-2X
17: MINI Cooper S (JCW)
18: Mercedes C 230 Kompressor
19: Lexus IS300
20: Pontiac GTO

Ok that was so easy that I decided to list 20.

And out of those, the cars that would be more fun are: 350Z, G35, RX8, EVO, STI, MINI Cooper S JCW, and probably the IS300. I would imagine the Celica GTS and Acura RSX-S are more fun to drive too. Driving the Magnum up and down a straight road to Home Depot might be fun the first two Saturdays, but come on? Imagine having to parallell park that *******? Take it to school, take it to the gym, to the city, F THAT!!

I think the hatred I have for the Magnum comes from the silly commercial in which it beats a Lotus Esprit... Ridiculous.

Hey good for you sparky. Thats the cool thing about cars, not every car is built with the expectation that everyone on the planet will like it. My wife hates the fact that its a station wagon but loves the ride, power and features of it. While I love the fact that its RWD, has tons of power at any point on the tach and I car haul just about anything in it.
And as I said above,

I also plan on taking the 300C out sometime soon to see how I like that. I know there are a lot of other cars in that price range but none quite as unique as the Magnum.

Women will like just abount anything that is new and shiny, especially if it costs a lot of money. This is a known fact. Given that fact, I will repeat... this thing is just plain nasty. That is not up for debate :). RomesGTS was 100% right. Any of the following cars will give you a lot more of whatever it was you thought you saw in the Magnum (Other than the ability to haul a coffin in the trunk), plus be more fun, more stylish, better quality, faster, etc... Out of that list, the most likely substitutes for the Magnum would be the GTO, G35 sedan, possibly WRX STI or EVO8, Cadilac CTS, VW Golf R32, Audi A4, Jaguar XType.

2: Subaru WRX STI

I have no problem with everyone's opinion (too each their own) but don't bash a car untill you've had a chance to drive it. Its so easy to point out what you don't like about a car from seeing pictures of it but till you've drove it you can't really have a honest opinion. So do like I do, take the weekend to go test driving and REALLY get your own opinion about a car, not what you've heard or read about it.

Ummm... I really don't think taking a test-drive in the Magnum will alter the fact that it's 3900lbs and a station wagon. I guess it would be perfect for yourself and for your family, but you started this post on the premise that a lot of Celica owners on this forum would be moving on to bigger and better things. That's where I have a problem with your post. I challenge the assumption that one of the vehicles a NC.org member would consider is a Dodge Magnum. Also, I very much doubt that if we marry andf have a wife and kid (family of 3), a station wagon with a HEMI would be necessary.

Don't underestimate the RX-8's because I bet it could outperform a Dodge Magnum any day of the week. Of course I don't just mean stoplight to stoplight sprints...

Also, FYI, the Jaguar X-Type and Cadillac CTS can be had for $31,000, and that's MSRp. With a little haggling, you can get between MSRP and invoice. Also, how can you say the SAAB 9-2x is over-priced when fully loaded model costs less than a Magnum? That's an all-wheel drive car that has more features and has much better gas mileage.

Also, it's important to note that DODGE has very poor residual/depreciation values as compared to Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Also, the cost of ownership and maintenance is a factor.

Speaking of the Evo 8 and the Mini Cooper S... Have you test-driven them? The Evo is probably more practical than the Magnum because it can fit your family in it, while being AWD and more fuel efficient. The Mini S has more room than the Celica actually. I would know since I had one for four months in 2002. (I'm 6'2'', 195lbs)

And lastly, you must have a huge wife or something if she can't fit into a Mercedes C class. They are larger than both the Audi A4 and BMW 3 series. I'm talking about the 4-door, not the 2 door.

In closing, I have no problem with you saying the Dodge Magnum is a fun automobile, and NO, I'm not speaking for the entire NC.org population. Anything with that much torque and horsepower should be fun for at least a while, but there are better autos/suvs out there, especially for the Celica crowd.

Its still a high revving, no torque car. That is one of the main reasons I got rid of my Celica, I want something with power from 2000 rpm up, not 6800 rpm up.I have no problem with the RX-8 I think it looks great, its just not the car I would want.

Reread what I said sport. I didn't say it was overpriced, I said it was an overpriced Subaru. Meaning I could get the same car in Subaru cloths for thousands less.

:wtf: I'm pretty sure I had no problem fitting my whole family in the Magnum plus a sales person, so I'm lost on why you say its "more practical". And If I want AWD the Magnum is in AWD version, the dealer had two AWD but they were the SXT's so no proplem there and at 25+ MPG I'd say the the Magnum has pertty good gas milage.

Ahhhh, see if your going to make suggestions you should learn to be more specific. When someone says c-230 the first thing I think of is the 2 door sports hatch.

And just to clear thing up, I'm not looking to buy anything new anytime soon. I'm happy being car payment free. I took the test drive because Dodge sent me an offer in the mail to get $75 dollars FREE just for taking the test drive. And being the poor little white boy I am I said WTF, why not. I like free cash, and I love driving new cars, so why not combine the two:gap:

#1: You still fail to convince me that "none would be as fun as the HEMI R/T"... (hmmm if you consider a car as tall as an suv, heavy as two Lotus Elises and can't handle worth a damn while having a 5-speed automatic fun...)

#2: And... I love the way you throw out 25MPG out there as if it's the actual truth. Is that what the salesperson told you?

The actual mileage is 17city/23highway. And you know what that means... you get 19 REAL MPG!!!

#3: You tried to fault me for not test-driving one first, but then again you have made the same mistake by saying that the Saab is the same as the Subaru. Have you ever seen a Saab interior? It would put a Magnum's interior to shame... And fully loaded, it's only $26,500.

#4: You still haven't acknowledged depreciation and low residual values for Dodge.

#5: Why do I need to be more specific? Mercedes has been selling C class sedans since 1993. They made 4-door only models for 14 years, and 2 years with 2-door models. How could you only associate the C-Class with 2 door models??? HELLOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

#6: Why wouldn't you be interested in a Mazda RX-8 again? It won a 10 Best award for Car and Driver... Don't make me prove a point and start a poll in this forum of "What would you rather have: A Mazda RX8 or a Dodge Magnum R/T"? That would be murder right there...

#7: How on earth could you claim that these Celica people would *Seriously* be interested in a Dodge Magnum R/T WHEN THEY ONLY COME IN AUTOMATIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only did you waste the salesperson's time for test-driving a car you NEVER intended to purchase, but you wasted valuable internet space for posting about it. (Yeah and I'm sure you walked up to the salesman and said "Hey I don't plan on buying a car in the near future whatsoever, but I'd like to drive one..." BS!!!! I'm sure you bs-d him a ton.)

The Lexus, Infiniti, Jaguar, Volkswagen, RX8, 4Runner, Maxima, Subari, Evo, Bimmer, Acura TL, Audi, Benz C-class, Cadillac CTS are all better options. Unless, of course you drag around a ladder wherever you go...

Man your like a little kid that has to have the last word. And Yes I did tell the sales person I just wanted a test drive. He even asked me when he saw the certificate for the $75 if he wanted me to just have him sign off on it and I said no because I was interested in driving the car. And the reason I thought about the 2 door first is beacuse that is the most popular Mercedes in this area. The C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe can be seen everywhere around here. And I'm not trying to convince you of anything, this was simply a write up of My OPINION of the car. And for the last time incase you missed it sport,

I've noticed a lot of people making the switch to Subaru and have thought about that when I do decide to buy another car in a couple years. I drove a WRX and thought it was great for the most part but that was also before I had my kid so I might want somethin bigger (like the Legacy) now.

God you're an idiot.

Ridiculous.

Too bad there's no such word as "funner".

And 1998+ Cobras are DOHC.

Well, I've always thought the current body style MACH 1 is an awesome car for the price... it has the DOHC 4.6 engine.

Yeah, it's scheduled to be released in about 12 months as a 2006 model, so it will be interesting...

Any chance it will be N/A?

5.4 DOHC sounds sweet...

gd dude why the hell do you care so much what he likes about it or not? or if he even likes it at all...

stfu up and let him tell his story about a test drive and what HE thinks of it, not what you think of what he thinks of it.
