215-40/17 or 225-45/17 on 17x7 rims?

215-40's diameter is a bit smaller than stock 205-50/16 and 225-45/17 is a bit bigger. Which one I should go with?

id say to go with the 215/40 because it is closest to the stock aspect ratio so then you wont have to have the speedometer recalibrated

why not 225/40? Thats what I've got.

I didn't think about recalibrating my speedometer when I bought rims. I have 18" rims w/, I think, 255/40's. How would the larger rim and tire effect my speedometer. Will I be going slower than I think???

tearemup: No you would be actually going faster than you think you are. The overall diameter of 225/40 on 18's is larger than our stock by about 1 inch.. Do some math and figure out the circumference difference. Its about 5%.. So if your speedometer says 65, then just add 5% to that, and thats your real speed..

My math might be wrong.. just assume u should add about 5-7mph.

Just use command sense..
The 215 or 225 are for width of the tire... which make the traction difference... speed doesn't make any different....
But when it comes to 40,45 and with that the rim size.. 16, 18 etc.... that makes the difference in speed....
When those gets bigger.... your actual tracel speed increase.. compare to your actual speedometer...
Cause of the circomflence... dang can't speel....

If you log on to tirerack.com, you can bring up tire specs for any tire they carry, and they list overall diameter. Compare it to stock and check how close it is.

just change the first one to your stock tire size, and then change the second one to the size tire you are looking at, and compare.
