I was shocked the first time it rained while I was driving with Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712s on my car. They were terrific. Almost as good in the wet as in the dry. I was on my way to an autocross event that day and came in 2nd place in my class while driving in a total downpour! While other people were getting wet changing to race tires and "rain" tires, I just showed up and did great on my daily driven street tires. While they're not as good in the dry as the best performance tires, they are VERY good in rain and they are affordable, long lasting and do fine on the street.

I second the vote for the Kuhmo's. They are fantastic rain tires, and they are much cheaper than any of the alternatives.

Look for any tire with an "AA" treadwear rating, those tend to be the best in wet weather.

I have the Toyo Proxes T1-S and they are fantastic in the wet (and dry). No snow in Florida so that isn't an issue. They have the (new) AAA (triple A) rating. 22k miles on them and they still look new, with plenty of life left in them. They were less noisey when new than the stock Yokos (which were worn out at 18k miles), but now they are getting a bit loud. I keep the fronts at 32 psi and the rears at 30 psi. Oh and they're on the stock 16 inch wheels. I paid around 140.00 for them.

AAA rating for the T1-S, eh? That must be a new rating because Toyota only claims AA and the NHTSA only describes AA as the top rating. Half the sites out there haven't been updated since the AA was introduced in 1997.

Do you have a source for the AAA rating?

When I was at the tire store (Tire Kingdom) the display card on
the T1-S indicated AAA, and I asked the manager (beacuse I had never heard of the triple A rating and he replied it was a NEW rating the Govt was considering). But on the side of the tire it is AA and the Toyo site lists it as AA. Perhaps it was a typo and the manager was making it up, I don't know (and really don't care). All I know is the T1-S is the best tire I've ever had on any vehicle for wet or dry traction/noise/handling.
