can anyone recommend an alarm system to me, some that is simple to use, yet has a siren that is separate from the battery
and also have easy to use features and useful ones. I do not need anything fancy, just something that will work to some degree
thanks

Get the aladdin from groupbuycenter. If what you mean by "a siren thats separate from the battery" you mean its connected to a backup battery, then you can get that with the aladdin as well. I'm gonna be purchasing the aladdin for my car probably today. Its only 199, and it looks AMAZING.

Stay away from it. Just another useless gimmick. I have seen guys on the Hondas and Acura boards and they have nothing but complaints about it.
If you something basic and will have all the common features, such as keyeless entry, starter kill, dual stage shock sensor, etc., go with DEI. Look at the basic Viper 300, Python 300, Hornet, wasp, etc., All same make and features, just different names used by DEI for advertising.
And all basic DEI alarm runs about $200-$250 installed w/a lifetime warranty.

Yes get DEI I have no probs with mine except the moron who installed it just threw the wires in the car and when I pull my center console apart it looks like wires exploded in there, But back on the topic what mickey said, get the window roll-up feature it is so cool I have had it for a year and a half and I still watch it everytime it rolls my windows up,
What ever you do stay away from Alpine alarms they suck unless you get the top of the line, which is over a grand, Also I don't recommend getting the starter kill becuase if you have your alarm set and your battery goes dead, it is a little more complicated to start the car, thats just what I have heard I stay away from it.

hey i have an alpine and i love it. i mean, its exactly the same as the DEI stuff in features. i'm not sure why 2KGTX said it "sucks." the reason i got the alpine, because every DEI sounds the same. they all have the same alarm noise. in my apartments, when an alarm goes off i can tell if its mine. there's about 6 that are all the same sound and then mine. the alpine also has a real low volume arm/disarm beep and warning beep. i really like that feature a lot, because your alarm isn't loud and annoying, but still does the job. also, the remote is nicer looking i think.

I got the alpine 8063 and it didnt cost me $1k, it was 600 installed wiht the optional dual stage radar module. I dont have all the other fance options installed but you can have it control you're stereo, windows, basically whatever you want. its awesome. The sires sounds much better than those viper, etc sirens. I think those things sound like a crappy video game when they go off.
plus you can have it monitor your battery voltage, which is nice if you have a ton of stereo stuff going all the time.

Get the one that vibrates your keychain when it goes off. i don't remember the name, but as long as you're within 1-2 miles of your car, you'll know when its set off!
Please avoid Aladdin right now. All they have going for them is the 2-way FM paging. The Alarm side of the Aladdin (which is a car starter/alarm combo) does not include a back-up battery siren! The siren included in the package is real ****ty...I am guestimating 110db's where as others are in the 120+range.
Also, with the Aladdin, you will not be able to use any external LED"s, unless you want to purchase an LED Module. Another annoying part of the Aladdin, the pre-warn on the shock sensor is a joke...
If you are getting the Aladdin for it's car starting features...then go for it, otherwise look elsewhere! ;)
NOW, if you can find yourself a G.I.T. Powerlink...same Remote as Aladdin...its blows away the Aladdin by a long shot.

IRl the Git is the same alarm at the alladin just a diffrent name.all are made by the same company.
Actually they are similiar only with the remote/antenna..after that, its a completely diff unit....functioning on a completely diff level.
Even so, the Aladdin remote/antenna isnt even compatible with the Powerlink.

one thing you don't want to do is put the alarm under the driver's side dash. if someone breaks into your car, they will look there first for the alarm since this is generally where they are. all they have to do is rip the harness out and this will disable about 90% or more of alarms since almost none have battery backup sirens, or a starter cut that is installed to not let the car start without the alarm present and working.

please also keep in mind no matter how awsome the alarm is, a good installation is the key. i had a friend who knew nothing about audio/alarm installations and circuit city hired him for the car install shop! i would not have trusted him to even install new wiper blades on my car! :) so be wary of some of those franchised electronic strores!

I think the best place for the brain would be behing the radio. Very inaccessable to thieves. I agree with msucelica, a good, clean, install is key. I tend to think that the independent shops can do better than the big corps. like circuit, and bestbuy, they seem to be all about the money and a quick turnaround, while the smaller shops have a reputation to build and/or keep up, hense good work. regardless of what kind of system you have, may it be expensive or dirt cheap, a good installation will last a lifetime. just do some hw, and look around for a good reputable shop to do the work you need.

I agree that Clifford is by far the best alarm that I've owned. The only thing is that I heard that the avantguard 4 is so complex that the chip that controls the alarm sometimes sends false alarms and begins to do peculiar things. i haven't had any problems w/ mine, but some installers did forewarn me about this problem. Does anyone know if there is an optional paging service or function that I can add to my clifford alarm?

I'm not really trippin since it's got starter/ignition/wireless fuel cut along w/battery backup on the siren, and good luck trying to find what wire does what w/the amount of wires hooked up.

the clifford is probably the single reason i'm actually keeping my car... i couldnt even think about taking it off the car and if i kept it on i lose close to a grand in hardware and labor.
dont worry russ you're still getting the lid... btw the rivets are at toyota now and i have an apt for thurs. to get the sh1t off.

what's the best clifford alarm out right now?? i was looking at the intelliguard 8000 with the proximity sensor... is the avantguard4 better?? and how much would it be with the additional window up feature
GTS LAID

ya the clifford avantguard 4 is the best... the window up feature is included in the alarm.. if you want full window control (up/down/half way) then you need to get the smartwindow module.
