Okay i believe it was 8400 RPM right?

I have a 2000 GTS. Before i was in a process of buying another 2000 GTS and the guy told me it was 8400. I think i remember hearing it was 8400 and the 2002 was 7800 right? Or am i wrong... was it 7800 and the 2002 like 7300 RPM?

First of all, i need to know redline for the obvious reason.. shifting. Second, i told my friends it was 8400 RPM and they flipped out on me saying that my other friend (he was there), his 05 RSX-s was 8100 and there's no way that Celica's redline is more than that. I said I think i remember reading from newcelica.org but i wasn't sure. Well, they then looked at my speedometer and said it was 7800 because that's where it starts to turn RED. like on the RPM gauge, at 7800, it shows like bolder and bigger REDISH lines so that's why they were like.. "look fool, it's 7800".. So.... whats the redline on my car please? Thanks

I am bombarding this forum with questions ahah but i'll stop once i "settle" and get things fixed on my new car.

Just rev it up yourself and see ;)
2000-2001, 2003-2005 is 8400 rpm
2002 is 7800 rpm
If your friends dont believe you then take them for a ride
Dont be afraid to take it up to lift and redline, it wont hurt your car when you hit the rev limiter ;)

Redline = 7800

Fuel cutoff is as stated above.

yea ur just mixing up teh FUEL CUTOFF with redline redline is just what is pictured on the tach.. the fuel cut on the 2002 gts model is 7800 and the other years is 8350

Hello everyone,

My friend just got a 2000 GTS. He talked to me about the redline issue.

One question I have is if the engine is making power around 8 grand with the stock airbox and exhaust, or are you just overrevving the motor?

Assuming the factory made the fuel cut off at 8350, the internals could withstand that high of an rpm, right?

Is the 2002 engine the exact same? Rod bolts and all? Or did they lower the fuel cutoff for warranty issues?

2002 is the same engine.. just that they set the ECU to fuel cut off at 7800. You would be losing power if you go into the 8k's, but it's necessary to land lift.

02 engine has two knock sensors, as opposed to 00-01's single knock sensor. The intake manifold's bolts are slightly different, as well.

First, can the heads and cams provide the flow needed for 8k, or is it just the stock airbox and or exhaust that limits the power.

After looking around this board, so far it seems like lift engages the 2nd camshaft? So when you say land lift do you mean in the next gear it would come down to a certain rpm above where the 2nd cam engages? Just want to be sure about the terminology here.

Just the bolts, not the manifold?

lift does not engage a second camshaft, lift merely "lifts" the i/e valves to flow more air into the combustion chamber, and that happens at around 6000rpm and to land lift as he stated you would want to land the 2nd gear shift above 6000rpm to stay in 'lift'

What changes to open the valves more? The lobes on the cam can't change their size.

Are you saying that's why the redline is different?

Lift does use different lobes on the same camshaft to achieve higher lift and longer duration. This is commonly called the second cam.
