Who will win if the Gt auto and a 5 speed has a injen cai, hot shot header, and exhast. And the Gts 6 speed is stock or have a cai.

Well, if a GT was modded with some basic boltons, it could hang with the GT-S. Like for example, look at Maelfyn's GT which is running better quarter mile times than stock GT-S's.

gts, although a good gt driver might be able to hang back

My gts has smoked plenty of moded Gt's...(including header, wide pipe, and exhaust..) it takes more than just parts...its the driver to...but if the driver is good there is a chance the gt could win.

how bout if I put a torque contventer on the gt

Maelfyn's car is not normal
a regular gt couldn't keep up with a gts with equal drivers

why is Maelfyn's GT so quick? what does he have done? thanks.

I bet you a stock gt-s stripped will run mid 14's. modded and stripped gt-s will run high 13's maybe and definitely low 14's. I think the gt-s is about a full second faster than the gt give or take a few with equal mods(which includes weight reduction).

Does weight reduction really make that much of a difference? I've heard from a lot of people that its BS... that for several hundred pounds you'll get the tiniest bit of improvement

Maybe in the 1/4 mile, but on the highway a modded GT still can't keep up with a GT-S. I hang with Maelfyn all the time. I can still wup him down on the highway though and the only power mod I have is an Injen CAI, full interior and carrying more sh!t than I should.

It's all about the top end. :)

Guys, also keep in mind that all drag strips are not created equal. At the same track where Maelfyn ran those times, Icyjaws has run a 100mph trap speed in a GT-S, without NOS. I think most cars could run better times on the street, and the track they use has exceptionally good conditions (like being right at sea level for one). I know for a fact that a GT-S 6-speed that I ran a 15.0 in with only a CAI could have run a better time on a better track.

The GTS should win, no problem. Freak GT's might hang with a GT-S in the 1/4 but 99% of the time the GT- S will smoke a GT, that's what they pay the extra $3k for...

Will the gt win if it have a torque contventer.

Well if the GT had a torque converter, it would be a good thing. If it didnt, it wouldnt move! best description i can give you is this...a torque converter is like the clutch in an auto. GTS will still beat a GT, unless the driver is horrible.

5spd GT's can't get torque convertors...

the only people that bitch about this is people who cant drive or live at 5000 ft above sea level.. Cecil is a good track.. its barely above sea level.. and FYI.. maeflyn ran faster at Capital then he did at Cecil..

I meant a level ten torque contventer on the gt

larryd

if the GT has a torque converter that means its auto and has no chance

Maelfyn
03-30-2002, 08:21 PM
Um yeah I ran that time at Capitol, which is a slow track. And Kaioshin is right. He walks me pretty bad in 3rd and 4th. If the GT-S guy has any clue he will win. In fact I wish he'd hurry up and mod his car a bit more. I think we can get that car running low 14s easily.

I believe the question referred to a GT-S Sportshift and an auto GT-S 5 speed...

Most people seem to be answering in reference to a GT-S 6-speed.

I have a gt-s sportshift (stupid decision), with injen cai, kinda curious how i'd fare against a GT with some mods?

PinnacleCelica
03-30-2002, 08:37 PM
Hmm maybe it was a 6-speed gt-s but im still curious how the GT-S sportshift will hold up against a stock GT and a modified GT 5-speed.

weight reduction does make a difference. 30 or 40 pounds is not signifigant, but how fast a car is depends on it's power to rate ratio and other things like traction, powerband, suspension, drivetrain. here's a site with some power to weight ratios. the 1/4 mile for these cars is pretty much in the order there are in for the power to weight ratios, makes sense. i think the gt-s' is 2500/180 stock so 13.89 pounds per one horsepower. since our car is fairly light it does not take much horsepower to make a difference or much weight reduction. if you could make a gt-s weight 2000 pounds stock it would be right there with an NSX at 11.1.

Seriously, so a 5-speed GT will kick a sport shift GT-S both stock?

larryd
03-30-2002, 09:11 PM
it should.. a 5spd GT can run high 15s stock.. the sport shift GTS is runnning high 16s..

auto GTS is more for show then go..its that simple.. it takes serious work to get the car into the 14s..

I wasn't trying to take away from anyone's acclomplishments. This is just like people trying to compare dyno numbers from different cars on different dynos. A GT-S 6-speed should under no circumstances lose to a GT 5-speed with the same driver on the same road/track. When I ran Static's car to a 15.0@93.5 (AEM CAI), I was spinning the tires and wheel hopping like crazy through first gear. I think my 60 foot time was only like 2.4 sec. I know that on the street, I can launch and just get a tiny bit of wheel spin and the car takes off. I'm looking for a better track in my area to get a better representation of what my car can do.

uhm, I lost to a 5spd GT by only half a car length.. I don't consider that being whooped and also I started to pull on him in 2nd gear VVTL-i but we shut off around 75mph...

you had a bad launch....

GT-S 6-speed will be a gt
GT-S SS will not

which comes to the conclusion...

if you got a GT-S SS, don't race... it's a show car, you got the automatic transmission for your convenience, so sit back and enjoy
