View Full Version : Still getting better.....ran 14.1 in the 1/4 mile

billybrun

Well, last night we went to Rockingham, NC which is a better track than Fayatteville hoping to break my record. I ran a couple of 14.3s and 14.2s, all this I was spining in 2nd gear and chirping in 3rd because the track wasn't treated but I was still getting traction, anyway, my best run of the night was 14.15.

One of my friends had a video camara and got a couple of my 14.2s runs but not the 14.15 one DAMN! I'm trying to post it if you guys want...

Wow, nice run. You only have a few mod and larryd have beaucoup. I think he not far away from you. I wish the celica comes with the LSD as a factory and driver trainee included. Take out your back seat and spear tire and go for 13's.

Awesome, billybrun! You planning any other mods to get more power out of your ride? You are SO close to 13's, it's crazy! Good luck with getting there.

Yeah, videos of your runs would be so cool. I still remember the video of John "Spoolin" hanging with a V8 Mustang in his 14.5 run. That was dope!

Slicks you could possibly get 13s. Your launch on your 14.15 isn't even that good which means there is room for even more improvement. I have had better launches many times in my lowly 149 hp GT.

2.2109 being my best.

go race a new Z28 or (new) mustang GT on the street and tell us who wins.
thats one crazy time.
if you got a 60FT in the 2.1's you would be 14.0's
damn

go take your car dyno also.
i want to see what kind of horspower and torque your putting down.

I rarely get into street races and when I do I know who I mess with so I can win Last night there was a 2000 Mustang GT doing 14.5s and some older Mustangs GT doing 14.5s and 14.4s. I raced them a couple of times and I was pulling on them, that was cool! People asking how much PSI of boost I was running and when they see my engine they go WTF?...

No I don't but, to give you an idea when you unbolt and take off the stock exhaust, it looks almost strait from there back to the manifold so, you can make a strait line from there to the back bumper. I had the muffler shop to make a strait pipe (about 1.5 feet)from the flange to the canister. In order to do this the pipe has to go over the lower control arm. Only when I carry 4 poeple and hit a really big bump the pipe barely touches so, there's no problem with this setup.

Damn dude...

I'm checking out your timeslips and comparing them...

It's got to be your launch...sure your 60 ft isn't that great at all..but when you hit that 330...your time drops dramatically..

Most people are doing like 6.3's but you're at 6.079.

That's gotta be that PG LSD doing it's thing..but I'm not exactly sure if that's the case.

Please describe your launch technique...and how's that PG LSD coming out?

How's the engine at 7k standing still? My friend PapiChuu did it at Etown this past Sunday. The engine was shaking which vibrated the car. It didn't feel too good. Does your car do this?

Do you feather the clutch and then dump, or do you just dump?

Well, if you totaly floor it you'll be bouncing on the fuel cut very rapidly and that's not good. You said that he car shakes?
Just do 6500 then, that way you won't floor it. For 6500rpms should be about half way on the gas pedal. Hold it like that and as you let the clutch out apply more gas to keep them high. Hope that helped...

So does it mean the your car is different from my friend's? Or you dont really launch at 7k, you just get it to the point right before it hits the rev limiter?

Any smell of burnt clutch??

Thanks

Are you running on drag radials ??? Do you have that big muffler still on your car??

billybrun

No smell, I'm careful not to burn the clutch and yes, it's just before fuel cut hits
I don't have my DRs yet, still looking for rims. Hey, What big muffler are you talking about? I've had this custom muffler for a couple of months now.

I think he's semi-slipping then dump. Just dumping at high rpms like that can be very dangerous and ruff on the car. Alot of wear on the engine mount and the axles if he just dumps it. I'm not sure how strong the celica's axles are, but I know axles on Hondas/Acuras are very weak. I've seen many of these cars break axles at the track. Slipping at the very beginning smooths out the launch.
