You know how they all say "it couldn't happen to me, I know how to drive"? It did.
Trying to put it in 4th, and I found second earlier this evening. WWWWAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!
Yikes!
Now it idles bad. I'm expecting the worst, hoping for the best. It does still run, no oil pressure issues.
Towed to the dealer. I hope to get the news tomorrow.....
What an awful night!! Full moon!!!
To top it all off, I got my 30k maintenancce done today. There's a few hundred down the drain. Oh, well..

None of that " oooohhhhh Shhh*****tttt" for me, thank you! :)
It seemed ok until I got home (1/2 mile later) The rough idle didn't start right away.
The service guy tells me that #4 cylinder is very dead. I'll know later today if there will be any problems with Toyota.
I'll even try and get some photos. So I too can post them like Bo (GTSnut) did a few months ago.....

wow scap... mine was much more dramatic.. the oil pump exploded.. the tach started to furiously flutter back and forth... it was ugly... then the car just came to a stop and eloquently popped up the "check" engine light... they need to put a "replace" engine light in my car.. hehe... good luck.. i dont think you'll have problems.. from what i know most of your mods are suspension.

Ah man....sorry to hear that.
It's really true....it can happen to anyone. I've caught it once or twice. Unless I'm really racing, I usually let her out a little slow on a downshift at first. Just gotta pray I suppose.

I'd missed twice before, but caught it by the time it revved to 7000 and disengaged the clutch. Not this time.
Good news, though. Toyta IS covering it, and the dealer has optimistic estimates of 10-14 days. Here's hoping.
I have also 'officially' retired from ever taking the car to the drag strip. Never been, never will with this car. Road course- oh yeah!! Autox definitely. Drag race- NONONONONONO. :)
Shure gotta say that ...because (looks around the corner)(looks under desk):ugh: of the spies.

I'm REALLY not interested in blowing up again. I really thought I knew what I was doing behind the wheel, but I have NO idea how I put it in the wrong gear. It all felt right, right up until the engine went up.
I think I'll be sticking to the stuff that needs a bit less shifting speed.
So there! :)

Toyota tells me that they'll let me get in there while the engine's out to install thet Hotchkis swaybar I've been putting off installing.
Looks like I'll be getting a TRD clutch at the same time.
If only a LSD or Flywheel were legal for STS........:(

the other night at the track i blew the 203 shift in my car from being too eager..luckily i only hit the gate but alittl ebit more ot the left and it woulda hit 1st..
just goes to show mistakes happen..unfortunately its something that you really cant prevent 100%. good luck with teh new motor.

Are celicas really that easy to mis-shift? I've read a lot of posts about people blowing engines due to mis-shifting. Is it simply because they're driving aggressively, or are celicas really that easy to miss a shift in? Is the GTS easier to miss in than the GT?

Why do you have to ruin my fun, NX!
Yeah, I just double checked the rules, clutches aren't mentioned, therefore assume they aren't legal to change for STS.
So much for that idea. I'm not ready to move to DSP and STX isn't used at my local club (except the STX index applied to STS, that is....)

Hate to ruin your fun again but the clutch swap in not STX legal either

hehe something tells me scap aint happy.... go for it anyway man... its better than having to pay the 700 bucks later for toyota to pry open your tranny... you really do save all that money... just make yourself ready for DSP.. hehe...

Tempting...... But i'm trying to get one of them neat championship jackets, and I'm WWAAYYY too late to shift over to DSP. Gotta stay STS, so I'll play nice.
Wouldn't want to get a rep as a cheater!!

i think people must be wrapping their hand around the shift knob and forcing it to hit the wrong gear, i have been driving mine for 2 years and 37000 miles and i am not always shifting slow and deliberately. Now hopefully my next post wont be about missing a shift and blowing my engine lol.

Don't say it, man!! You're jinxed now!
That must have been it. My silly, ricer shift knob might have been part of it, too.

how the hell do you guyz miss 4th ?
keep practicing.....
scapamouche

It's a bit different when you're shifting from the RIGHT side of the car, bud. Your natural tendancy will be bias to the right, not the left, less chance of putting it in a lower gear....
I used to say 'practice, practice, careful', then I blew mine up too.
