I'm looking to spend roughly $1000 dollars to put in a new system.. subs.. amps.. and whatever else is needed. Can i keep the stock speakers and they'll sound fine.. should i change? Do i have to get a face to control teh subs?
My main questions is.. what kind of system should i get.. 1 sub? 2 subs? I don't want it to be amazingly loud.. just to hit. Dont need 1000 amps going to it or nothing like that.
Please recommend a system set-up and brand. Thanks a ton.

Hmmm, there are a lot of things that you can do with your stereo so all this really depends on how far you want to take this.
From what you described as what you want to get out of your system, I would say that you would be best just adding a sub to your existing speakers. To be honest, the factory speakers that came in the Celica sound really great(don't you agree?) and even come with a factory amp so they go pretty loud without distorting. I would suggest that you keep your factory speakers and add one sub and a sub amp. If you aren't looking for super volume or anything, and just want a nice sounding system with clean bass that hits, you should be fine with just one sub. If you want to control the level of the subs while inside your car, you will need an aftermarket cd player that allows that, because the factory one does not. But you don't really need one to control the subs, all you need to do to control the subs is adjust the gain on the amp that powers the sub and use the bass settings on your factory HU to get the sound you want. HU's with actual subwoofer level control are out there if you want it, but you don't need it.
PinnacleCelica, I have a really good system that I am trying to sell that you might be interested in. I havent even posted it in the for sale section or anything yet, and it sounds perfect for what you want, so I guess I'll give you first dibs. I sent you a P.M. about it....

you don;t need a capacitor unless you're doing a powerful syatem, say >1000 watts. so dont worry about it.

Okay, i went to a local audio guy, and he said roughly $400 out the door, without the face. I'm not sure what type of amps/subs they are, but i will check in and find out. A 10" sub and a i think 400 watt amp, kenwood or JL audio i think it was. Sound decent, or do you need more info?
How much more are double din decks that regulars?

PinnacleCelica, you can find double din decks that cost the same as regular din decks. Most of them are more expensive because they use the extra space to cram in a bunch of features that you will probably never use, but there are good quality ones out there that cost the same if you pass on all the extra features.
Just so you know, the original HU in the celica is not a perfect double din. The hight is the right size, but the width is a little greater than a double din, so you will need to have the person who installes it make a custom plate to fill the gap. Its no big deal, just pointing it out in case you didn't know for your information.
Good luck! :)

im doing one jl audio 10" w6 w/ the JL 500/1 amp...ott awg wiring...and a flush mounted box where the sub and the amp rack is all part of the truck. kinda like coming from the spare tire well. itll be completed in about another month or two. baby steps...baby steps. id recommend a cap or a optima (or whatever other brand name) new battery you want.

prolly the pioneer 4400. dual rca preouts, sub control...xm ready. good stuff for the buck. unless you wanna go do alpine, id recommend them too. **** sony and kenwood. their decks blow. kenwood skips to much and just are not anything that i personally like. no offense to any of you use that have them, just bad experience w/ me and im kinda pissed we are going to sell kenwood...morningwood at work next month.

go with pioneer deck, if you want spend just a little more and get the premier line. better warrenty and features. i have the premier 730 and i love it.
they have the same one as mine but with out the graphic display not sure of the model number but it looks real good. i installed one in my sister's celica(93)
as for a sub...JL is real good. I have a cheap 10" JBL and a cheap pioneer 200w amp and it's alot of bass (for me) A 10" is perfect for the celica....unless you want people 3-4 blocks away to hear your bass then go with 2 12"s :)
as for a amp, i was told alpine is good for the celica cause it dosen't draw to much power but still sounds really good. The celica dosen't have the best alternator... this is what a install shop was saying.
as for some other amps, there's MTX and Pioneer. they won't empty your wallet plus there pretty good.
if you need anything else let me know

better warranty, lol. manufacturer warrenties cover nothing, but "manufacturer defects" which almost exists as nothing when you put a mini amplifier and other stuff in a car thats being driven and beat up by mother nature. =D

For speakers, go with Infinity kappas. They sound really good and the price on them are decent. As for subwoofers, I really recommend Boston Acoustics if you can afford them. I wouldn't go with a JL Sub, simply because i use to have a W6 and the center cap fell off. Oh by the way, it's just sitting in my room, so if anybody wants it, offer me a price. I'm sure you could just crazy glue it or something.
