You got it right soceur, if you want your aftermarket HU to fill the same amount of space that the stock unit did, you would want to ask to look at double din head unit's.
Normally when you walk into a car audio shop, most of the car CD players on display are a single din size. If you take two of those CD players and stacked them on top of each other, they would fill the height of the hole that the stock Celica CD player took up perfectly. So if you wanted, you could install two of those single din CD players in place of the stock unit, which is what I did. I have a single din Eclipse CD player and a single din Alpine DVD player mounted in place of the factory CD player.
One thing though, the factory CD player that came in the Celica isn't really a standard double din. The height of the CD player(vertically) is a perfect double din size, but the width of the CD player(horizontally) is a little bit larger than a standard double din CD player is. So it will be impossable to find an aftermarket CD player that will perfectly fit the factory hole because there will be a small gap on the sides. But all you have to do is get a double din CD player and have the place that installes it mount it with a custom cut peice(probably made out of plexiglass) to fill the small gap that remains. If you do this, the aftermarket CD player will look like it came in the car from the factory, only other Celica owners who know what the stock unit looked like will know that it's aftermarket.
Hope that answers your question ;)

once again MI is in the house. Thanks for the info man!! The only problem though, german places around here don't or won't custom fit things for me. This should be unheard of in this type of business. I had a place tell me they wouldn't drilll holes in my back seat to mount rims because the car was too nice. While flattered i was like for goodness sake, its my car and if i pay you to drill holes in the back seat then do it. Needless to say i did a self install which i labored on for 2 days, and gave me the im never going to install a audio system again syndrome. I think toyota really didn't give to much thought to those that would want to upgrade their audio system. anywhoo, thanks again for the info.
