aS of monday nov 1 i am making a deal on a celica gts 6sp, and a GTS auto, but the auto is fully loaded (leather etc.) In new the site, and i wondering the power difference between the auto and the 6sp. I am a member of club3g.com (eclipse) and when i had my eclipse the power difference was a 20% between the different trannys. Anyone got a answer

I dont want to offend anyone here with auto gts's, but they are really slow. I highly recommend the 6spd even though its not fully loaded. Either that or you can get a gt and bolt on a turbo. I'm still a noob, but thats what i suggest.

6 spd GTS = high 14's - low 15's
Auto GTS= 17's

slow as in slower tha the man gts slower than the man gt and slower than the auto gt. So basically its the slowest celica on the market.

I recall reading on here where two people raced an auto GT and an auto GTS... where the Auto GTS blew away the Auto GT...
Unless youre talking about sans-triptronic, I dont see how the Auto GT is gonna beat out the GTS.

Different engines with different powerbands.
The 2zz engine only makes good power between 6200 and 8350 rpms . Its hard to shift fast enough in a manual GTS and stay in that power range. Auto tranny will fall out of that power range on every shift.

The GT has a much smoother powerband than the GT-S, which is why it only needs a 5 speed manual. The auto GT is also 120lbs lighter than the auto GT-S (around the equivalent of 12 extra hp).
Auto GT > Auto GT-S in about 80% of 1st gear
Then the GT-S drops out of its powerband on each shift because the auto gearing is way off, while the GT has steady power on every shift. From a roll, the auto GT-S would beat the auto GT, since it has better top end power, but from a launch, the auto GT would pull in the beginning due to more low end power, and maintain a lead that the auto GT-S couldn't overcome. In the 1/4 anyway.

So basically youre saying that the GT's engine puts out more torque from 1000 to 6400 RPM than the 2zz?
Anyone got a pair of spec sheets?
Then again, I guess all my experience is screaming around the backroads here. I dont usually muscle up on someone's car at a light cuz I know how slow the thing is from the line ^_^
Remember, 1/4 mi isnt the only thing cars do.

take advice from someone who has an auto gts -- dont get it. the fact that it has 4 gears means it will drop about 2000+ rpm per shift. that is a really ****ty loss in power because of the difference between the gears is too high.

I've heard from a few people that in the 1/4 the difference is roughly 2 seconds. Definitely go with the 6 speed.
