There is one more Red '01 GT-S Fully Loaded at one of the dealers here. The sticker price was ~$24,465 but is now at ~$22,465 clearance price. The salesman also said that it will also sell for best offer. What price do you think I could get it for? All opinions welcome. Thanks.

When you say "Fully loaded", does that include the Action Package (the stupid-looking bodykit)?

No, it doesn't include the Action Package. Just the usual leather seats, sun roof, no ABS through.

If it had ABS, I'd think that's a pretty good price. But no ABS would be a deal breaker for me, because it's number one option in my mind.

from edmunds.com :

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2001/toyota/celica/gts2drhatchback18l4cyl6m/options.html?id=lin0016

invoice : 19308
destination : 480
alloy : 48
leather : 496
spoiler : 348
side airbags : 215
sunroof : 704

total invoice = 21599

maybe you can offer them 100 over invoice and see what they think.

To push the price down even more , think :
1. when you drive this little guy off the lot it depreciates twice as fast as that of a 2002
2. considering the fact that it's a 2001 depending on the miles on it it may have been beaten up pretty badly by everyone test driving it before you( hey it's a Celica)

Well I went to two dealers here that have the same exact car, even the color 2001 GT-S. One dealer offered me 22,000 plus tax so around 23,846 and the other dealer gave me 23,500 with tax and everything. Do you think I can get these prices lower considering they are the last 2001's they have?

Tell them you are greatly concerned about the depreciation as soon as you drive off the lot. Offer them 22.5K out the door and see what they do, work from there. You didn't mention if these were demo cars or not, that would effect your bargaining position.

Im going back sometime this week. I'll make sure to ask about all these things. Has anyone gotten a GT-S Celica for under invoice price? Both dealers told me they will NOT sell it below invoice price. According to the invoice price is what they bought it for, which isn't true. (I think)

Neil, do not pay more than 22k for a 2001. anything above 22k is for a 2002.
(excluding tax) that brings us to the second quirestion : are you sure the tax is 8% in Ohio ? Our tax here is only 3%. 1846 for tax - that sounds like a ripoff

if the tax rate is correct then 22k+tax is the correct price you should pay - whether you get it from the 23846 guy or the 23500 guy, although "sounds" like the latter is a better deal - reason is there are often hidden charges (document/processing...etc) that they will add in later. Demand an exact calculation on the worksheet(break it all down) to see exactly how much you need to pay(tags/license...etc) and make sure there's no extra 500 delivery charge at the end of the paperwork. When they tell you the invoice is how much they actually paid for the car it's not true.

one last note though : I personally will not pay more than 21800(before tax) for what you are talking about here.

goto the two stickers and write down the exact optiopns/price/miles on the two cars and post them here so we can help evaluate the price for you. without that we are shooitng in the dark.

http://www.metrotoyota.com/f_new_inventory-full.cgi?extend=138905443&make=Toyota&model=Celica&year=2001

There is the link for the 23,500, which is actually ending up to be $23,635 for everything, no hidden fees according to the salesman.

The other dealer [Sunnyside Toyota] may have some hidden charges. Im leaning toward the Metro Toyota [23635] because we have bought two cars from there in the past. Actually 11 years ago :) with a 1986 Corolla and a 1988 Corolla which we still actually have that work great.

But the prices that I have put above seem to be pretty average for a 2001 GT-S. If there any other additional options that may affect things please ask, I will remember if i recall seeing them. Thanks for your help by the way. :D

If these cars are identically equipped then let the dealers know they are in competition. You don't need to worry about any hidden charges. Tell them you are looking for the best "out the door" price, the winner gets your business. Good luck.

Another thing, both of these cars have swirls in the paint that i can see. They are very very minor and light scratches, and im not sure if all cars usually have this, but they are very noticable when u are up close and purposly looking for them. It looks like when they waxed it, it scratched it a little bit. Will they "fix" that in any way?

Hey guys,

I don't know if this will help any but let me add some mix to the soup.

The prices that you are getting might seem a little too high.

When I purchased my car in Feb, this year (2000 GT-S 6 spd) it only cost me about ~17,300 before tax and docs. So out the door it would've been about ~19,300. I know that 2001 hasn't passed yet so the price of a 2001 would not drop that significantly yet but 21k seems a little steep. My car was almost fully loaded (leather, abs, spoiler, sun roof) with nothing wrong with it other than some minor scratches but that won't affect the price that much.

I say just get someone in there who can haggle like hell. I know its embarrassing for a little bit but man they get the job done well (my mom in this case).

Let me just say that I am stupid and now realize you are probably talking about a new 01, and not used.....

Disregard anything I said.........

I don't know if carsdirect.com works in Ohio, but I just went there and the 2002 GTS is selling at invoice. You may try there. You may also look at a 2002. I know that Toyota lowered the MSRP and invoice on many of their 2002 cars, compared to the 2001.

I think $22K + tax for a 2001 is too much. Like everyone says, there is already one year of depreciation. Personally, I don't care if the dealer says that they won't sell below the invoice. I would tell them that they can continue to pay rent on the car and have it sit on the lot. The longer it sits on the lot, the may they have to pay Toyota.

Neil,

I just paid $21,300 for an new '01 GTS. It has every option but the auto and an alarm (don't need it where this car was sold). This is before tax. It has leather, 8spkr cd, power everything, etc. No "Action Package, gold, or specialty dealer options (ski racks etc.) What a steal. The dealer showed me the invoice, claimed the price was $100 bucks over invoice. He was all depressed.... "we just wanna make a hundred bucks today". I prefer red but... what a steal.
Keep lookin around. You will know in 5 minutes if you are at the right dealer. These dealers are just sending out their salesmen with a final price... no ****ering. They are just depressed. Try somewhere cold and snowy... sports cars don't move in winter in some states. And take the 0% for 5 years! Toyota is taking a huge hit with that. Great time to buy. I can get you my e mail if ya wanna squawk more, I 'll get out my window sticker for ya.

01 GTS (late Oct.01) Carbon Blue 6 speed. No mods yet many planned!
