wow...i'm getting some crappy gas milage...its taking me half a tank to go 116 miles. Whats up with this? i have 46k miles, what can i do to get my good gas milage back? i got some STP fuel injector cleaner today and poured it in the tank, hopefully this does somthing... what else can i do?
All i have done that could possible affect my milage are:
TRD drop in filter,
TRD exhaust
and removed my B/F valve...
i need some help with this...

it might just be the indicator. Mine was pretty messed up for awhile. I would go 200 miles and it would only go down to just above 3/4. Then in the next hundred it would go to 1/2 and then plummet at 300. It somehow has fixed it self though. Might have been the toulene i put in (Berryman c-12 engine cleaner).

1) change the way you drive; don't "rev" so high. I also started shutting the car off at red lights I know are long (greater than 5 min) of course, this probably puts more wear on my starter, etc. so choose your poison.
2) I have 46,000 now; had dealer fuel injector service at 45,000. didn't seem to do much, but I'm not sure there was much to be done. I just drive alot so I'm burning at least a tank a week.

Keep in mind that the fuel gauge is not always accurate, they can be really accurate or just way off. It could all be in your head. Next time at the pump, divide the mileage on your trip meter with the amount of gallons pumped to top off the tank. If your mileage is adequate for your celica model, you're good.
If not, i wouldn't know what to say. Is your car getting scheduled maintenance done on time?

wow...thats weird to be getting such low gas milage. i just came back to L.A from S.F this morning with one tank of gas, all highway milage. i think in total i traveled roughly 430 miles with one tank. 70-75mph all the way. hope you find whats causing your low milage...

My engine have over 100k of hard-driven miles... I still get about 150miles off the first 1/4 mark in the gas gauge (which = to slightly less than 1/2 tank since the gauge is inaccurate).
I get about 320+ average miles per tank, 75% highway, all driven hard (full throttle, over 80mph, etc)... about 28mpg..
So I think there's something wrong with your car.

 seriously??? it takes approximately the same amount of gas to idle for 3 minutes as it does to start the car.

Explain. Hybrids seem to think it is a good idea.

so is our guage that inacurate? does the second half of a tank go alot faster then the top half?
hmmm...this has me thinking....

I wouldn't know about the celica gauge. But check this out, might be rather interesting and informative. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-gauge.htm

Shutting down your engine during stop lights is a stupid idea... how much gas do you really save idling at below 1000 RPM? think about it sucker....
I get about 400 to 420 miles per tank... which is pretty damn good. There's a big different between cruising at 70 and 90.... big, big different

i'm only getting ~300 miles per tank. i don't really drive it that hard, but i do keep the RPM's between 3- and 4K. my guage shows ~200 miles at 1/2 tank, and then plummits (sp.?) after that. the most i've ever gotten was last week - 320 miles

apparently enough to get to work another day. If youre sitting at a light for 5+ min, you just let your car run? thats stupid, sucker.
I'm not saying shut the car off at every light. but if you know of one youll be sitting at long enough to read a small novel, why not? And it was just an idea. if you prefer to run you car, please continue to do so. Just because you don't agree doesnt make you correct.

i've changed my driving style quite drastically over the past couple of months. due to the increase in gas prices i should say. i used to get around 250miles per tank with maybe 2-3 bars left on the gauge, 70% local, 30% highway, always cruise between 3-4K rpms.... With my new driving style, i get over 320miles per tank, with 2 bars left as well(also 70% local, 30% highway). The big sacrafice for this is to rarely rev higher than 3K rpms. I'll be driving in 5th gear at 35-38 mph or whatever, as long as my rpm in 5th gear does not go below 2K I don't feel any pinging. Same goes with 6th gear.but i gotta warn u, you safe alot of gas this way...but you don't really enjoy any fun. I've never really drive long trips, so I dont really have an idea how many miles I could go on a tank if its like 80%highway/20%local.) And also, if you want to safe gas, stay out of lift, that is if you have a gt-s. :gap:

I drive an SUV and I get about 320 miles on 18 gallons of gas ..
Treeh8r - obviously you missed the point that it takes up alot more gas to start a car than you think. Most defenatly more than 5 minutes worth of idling.
The best bet for J5ISALIVE is to take it to a dealer or another reputable shop that might specialize in things of this nature.

Maybe this goes back to my car being a factory freak or something, but averaging 80-85 on the hwy i got about 35 mpg on my way down to ATL. coming back averaging about 100-105 i got 30 mpg (which is what i get in CTY). This may sound silly but check to make sure your charcoal canister VSV is hooked up. I rode around on a tank of gas and got 20 mpg, turns out the hose popped off of the VSV...put it back on and boom all better.
oh btw, 80,000 miles.....(with about 40,000 of them in lift hehehe)

Ive actually gotten 37.5 miles to the gallon on my gt-s. I made it to about 490 miles on one tank more than once. And this is with 139000 miles. Just get a tune up.
