Hello....I'm looking to purchase a pacesetter header for my mk2 supra. They have the regular header for 170 and a ceramic coated one for 360.

I think 190 bucks is a big difference. I'd like to avoid paying. Would it be possible to buy the normal header and find a way to a put a ceramic coating on it after...for less than 190 dollars that is.

Oh yeah...I'd like to make sure I understand the use of the coating. It's for keeping heat from escaping right?

Any info would be great....thanks.

I reckon search on the net or look through a couple of performance magazines for ceramic coating companies. Ask them how much much it will cost to get a header coated. Compare the price difference of ceramic coated from factory pacesetter header and getting someone else to do it to the cheaper stainless steel one.

Coating the header will keep the heat inside the piping and hence increase gas velocity travelling through it, which will give you more Hp.

Those more expensive ceramic headers are most likely not ceramic coated. They are ceramic. Ceramic is a lot more difficult to shape than steel which is why they cost so much. They also insulate much better than steel.

More insulation = more horsepower, but it also = lower underhood temps.

I'm guessing the stock manifold is cast. Cast insulates better than steel tubing. Going with just a steel header may result in higher underhood temps than stock.

Ceramic headers are also smooth on the inside from the start. They don't need any grinding or polishing to provide maximum airflow.
