Hey guys, what are your EGT readings at:
- cruising
- boosting
Im getting 500-520

- cruising: about 500-600
- boosting: 700-780 highest at one time was right at 810 but i was pushing like a mofo (to pick up gasper and friends;))and the car isnt tune 100%
round 600-650C when cruising (round 120km/h)
700-780C when boosting
I've had it at 815 too once
I have an autometer EGT and I have no idea how accurate it is..

Guys, nice and very interesting thread, but please add to your post where your EGT sensor is located and which EGT Sensor/Gauge you're using.
Mine is right behind the Turbo in the downpipe (4cm behind the turbo). Greddy Warning Gauge.
Cruising at 120km/h gives me around 500
My EGT probe is also right behind the turbo.
Either my car is running extremely hot or my egt is a bit messed up.. cruising at 140km/h it's at 700C

Can be normal, since you're running stock compression.
I don't know how much temperature the celica engine can handel. So far I didn't mention any knock on my car. But knocking is not the only problem.

about the same here, 800 the highest. my sensor is located in the manifold. I have an Apex'i

@fraugts: Your setup seems to be much leaner when you're not boosting and very rich when you're boosting. Thats ok for a basic setup. Now you can smoothly lean it up at WOT a bit. Best way is to tune the car on a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor.

unless someone knows how to do the conversion...posting numbers in Celceus (sp) please convert to ferinheight (sp) man i need to go back to school!!!
MY egt crusing are about 1200 degres, and at WOT boost it climbs to 1400-1500.
Remember thats not the temperature of the pistons though...they will be much cooler, with oil spraying under them and the cool gas/air mixture....

To convert Celcius to fahrenheit multiply deg C by (9/5) and add 32. (C * 9/5) + 32
To go from F to C (F - 32) * 5/9

Smaay: cruising at what speed? you get about the same readings as I do. I'd like to compare the speeds/rpms to see how my car's doing

100% true. Running lean when cruising is no problem though IMO. Your car doesn't have alot of stress like it has when it's boosting. So I consider the car to run stock and tune my A/F ratio to like around 14, which was like 14.7 stock.
Since the car is being driven without boost, it would seem that it's similar to a stock celica.
You're probally missing alot of power when boosting, because you're running rich. Get it tuned properly and you'll have alot more fun

Tune at own risk though, i'm running pretty lean right now... I love it and my internals can take it :)

wow mine must be to high.. at idle its about 800, crusing at 50mph its 950, and full throttle its 1250 max.
Fahrenheit I hope.
My idle is between 300-400 degrees celsius. Cruising around 600 and pushing around 700-750. Max I have clocked on my EGT is 810. Was doing around 220km/ph
Using Defi BF gauges, that has the same sensor as Soceur's gauge.

Defi sensor placed an inch or so from the head.
I see 1300 F when cruising at 3000rpms and 1400 F when cruising at 3500 rpms. When my water injection was working I was seeing below 1300 F when under boost.

My EGT probe is before the turbo in the collector where the gasses merge the manifold. The max temp is 760-780, if I had the probe installed in the D-pipe after turbo it probably would have read 680-720 bc's the exh air cools a bit after the turbo. The exh temp in the downpipe is much cooler than right after the exh port. So be aware of this bc's not all readings are the same and depends greatly in the position of the probe.
I drove the highway a bit today and noticed the following EGT readings:
120km/ph: 575 degrees c
140km/ph: 625 degrees c
When turbo is spooling, EGT rises fast, after spool up temp remains stable.

That sounds about normal...
BTW, it's also useful to know if you did anything to reinforce the engine. From what i'ev heard is that the GT-S has a aluminium block which is far weaker then the steel GT block.
So, also include your engine type + modifications to internals and how much boost you're running.
This would also give an idea on how much a non-inforced engine can take.
I've got a GT with wiseco 8.8:1 pistons and crower rods. Running 13PSI(0.9bar) on high boost.

Same as Bing as you can see in my sig. :)
