how many people in here use their boosted celicas as their daily drivers? and how is the reliablility overall? like how often things break, etc. also..how long have you all been running you daily driver turbo setups, how many miles do you drive a month, and what are your current settings?

Me <------
Life sucks... not really.
Car is in the shop as i type this, overheating for some odd reason.
Mechanic is doing a leak down.
*crossing fingers, hoping its only a thermostat*
I'd recommend getting a beater.. it makes life easier.
as far as things breaking it depends on your driving and how prepared you are. (gauges, clutch, tuning etc.)

I've had my turbo for about 6 months now and other than the famous leaks haven't had any problems as a daily driver.
as long as you follow the rules you'll be fine

been driving mine as a daily driver for a long time... But then I do not drive it as much as many people here, I am less than 60k and I got the car December 1999
Been driving mine as daily driver for over a year now. If I'm doing some work on my car then I usually borrow my GF's car.

daily driver here, 7k miles. Small problems here and there. I also borrow my gf's car when needed.
having acces to a second car would be a great idea.

I've got a '91 Honda Accord...very comfortable car. :) And I'm glad to have it since I always have new ideas what to change on my engine/car ... then I start something ... then I'm usually running out of time ... and then the car has to stay in the garage. ;) Hehe.
Except of my blown engine (burned waterline, which is now replaced by a steel braided line and fixed properly...), I only had some small problems which can happen. I'm boosted since march now, but the car was down for about 3 months when the engine was blown.

My ride's daily-driven also. My engine and turbo system are still going strong. I've put around 25,000 boosted miles on my Celi so far. My tranny blew very early on, but I got it replaced. My second tranny has been holding up so far.

My only problems have been a few loose couplers.... The exhuast is yet to be resolved, but isn't really bugging me a this point.

My turbo isn't even close to being a daily driver, mind you its not a 7th gen, but my take word on it is that you should have a beater if you get a turbo car or build a serious N/A car. This will take a TON of stress out of your life.

Don't rely on your turboed car. Have a backup.

I woud say daily driving is not a problem, but having some kind of backup is a good idea

old post..but i started it so it doesn't matter..haha
back on the daily driver topic though, most of my driving is 70-80% highway miles. would that impact the reliability of my car as a daily driver? by this i mean, is driving on the highway less strenuous on a stock turboed system than say taking all side streets and main roads with stop and go driving?
i know it says soon to be 2zzpowered in my sig..but im still exploring options as i haven't put money down on anything.......yet

i use mine daily and there have been problems but mostly due to the original installer and the fact I had a lhd kit on a rhd car. I have to use mine daily as a second car is not an option. if i am really stuck I can use my wifes but it drives me mad.
I see no point in having a second car when you have a car as good as the celi - you want to show it off

When your second car is a MR2 turbo it is fine to drive either. heheh =].

I have MR2 turbo as 2nd car and I back that up with a Mercedes C280 just incase I start modding MR2 while I mod my Celica :)

Oh! back onto subject... My Turbo setup has been on since 2002 so its working and boosting great :) Well my turbo itself (not the setup) just recently went, turns out the oil line had a leak in it and stuff and the turbo fried itself. So now its ball bearing turbo and I keep watch of my liquids as well as warming up in morning and cooling down with a turbo timer, hopefully it will last a long time this time.

OUCH!! on the tranny issue? what exactly happend do you know?
as for my car yes its a supra, BUT it is daily driven and has the same problems as most cars that are turbod do, and that are daily driven ie, high wear of the pads etc. just do regular mantinence is all.
also with my first car which was a celica GTS i mean if you drive it hard it will come into problems more so than if driven like the average consumer.

Dude - your car is made by the black sheep of the Japanese auto manufacturing family with the worst quality track record of any of them. Plus for them to have a new gen of engines they will have to somehow not go out of business....
Besides we aren't talking about stock vehicles that were designed to run with turbos, we are talking about heavily modified originally N/A vehicles or factory turbo cars running over twice the factory power levels. Plus racing a car does not promote good reliability. Often times you have custom or rare parts that may not be readily available if they fail.

And, most of us dont have enough money to drop 4 engines into our cars, lol... are you serious?
