About two months ago, I contacted SpeedNStylez about purchasing tower strutbars for my celica. while we were negotiating the shipping to hawaii, he proposed an offer to me to help redesign his website (www.speednstylez.com) in exchange for parts and/or credit. It seemed like a good deal to me, so I took him up on the offer. I asked him to email his site to me so that i could work on it, but he didnt have an offline copy of the site nor was he web savvy enough to download the files for me. instead he gave me the username and password for his server. about a week later, his server expired and he lost all of the files that were on it. luckily for him, i had downloaded the entire site and it was no problem to upload it to his new server. i started to redesign his site and put in about 15 - 20 hours of work. After two or three weeks, SpeedNStylez informed me that he was "going with another route" and he would no longer be needing my services. he mentioned that he would ship 2 of the strutbars to me (instead of the $200 in credit which was originally agreed upon) in exchange for a few logos and banners for his new site. I didnt have a problem with this, but since i had already invested so much of my time with his website (not to mention saving his website from being obliverated), and I have not had any type of reimbursement for it yet, I asked him to show some good faith and send atleast one of the bars. I have not gotten anything from him since then, parts, payment or replies. I have tried to contact him several times thereafter, but I never get a response. A few weeks ago, I found that I still had access to his server, so I deleted the files that I had uploaded for him, hoping to get something out of it. I believe that I had a right to do so because 1) he gave me access to his server, and 2)I was the one who put those files there in the first place. My actions had little or no effect, since by the next day, all the deleted files were restored back on his server. Currently, he has a new redesigned site which another individual created for him. i have not checked to see if I still have access to his server and I do not intend to do so. I would like to get this matter resolved though. James, are you still there?

Kyler,

Im not sure if you noticed but I just switched hosts and am now using oScommerce. If you have any experience with it please let me know... My site has been down for a few days now and I really need it back up. You can contact me at info@speednstylez.com or I always check teamspeednstylez@yahoo.com . Hope to hear from you soon.

Oh also if you can design the whole thing for me I am able to pay you for the services. Thanks

i emailed you at info@speednstyles.com last night, but i got it bounced back to me. might want to check in to that. heres the message:
you were right about using frontpage. your site is using front page
extensions, so it automatically knows what to do when you connect to it
with front page. most sites do not have these extensions. i finally got
your site downloaded. the tricky thing was i needed to connect to port
80 from the ftp client. the standard port is 21 or 22 (ssh). anyway,
im working on a splash page for your site. its basically a simple page,
and its the first page people will see when they reach your site. i was
going to make 2 versions of your site, one with the navigation in html,
and the other using the flash that you have now. the thing with flash
is that while about 80% of computers have flash, theres still a chance
someone without it will visit your site. and having the navigation in
flash will render your site useless to them. on the splash page (all in
html), i was going to give users the ooption of chosing flash of html.
but then i thought it would be kind of pointless to do that. usually
when a site give a choice like that, the flash option is done entirely
in flash (not just the navigation). so, what do you want me to do?
make 2 sites (same price for you, but it will look funny to experienced
web users), or dont use the flash for navigation?

im pretty sure i will be able to make a new navigation for you (html) if
you need me to.

-k2

also, do you have an alternate email address i can contact you at? i'd like to move our conversations to email so they can be documented.

Maybe you need to use frontpage...

Hows this sound... Once you get started and theres a noticeable difference in the overall look then I will ship $50 worth of items (shipping included). If everything is ok after that then we can see about the rest of the credit. But rest assure im a man of my word. If I say its a fair trade and you stick to your part then I will do the same...

okay, i'll let you know if i need it.
originally, i messaged you regarding the tower strut bar for the celica. i was looking forward to purchasing it soon. with the trade arrangeent, when would you feel comfortable shipping it out? will it cost more for you to ship several small packages, as opposed to one big one?

How about $200 in store credit? You can even take your time with the whole thing... As long as its a functioning site thats easy to navigate. Let me know. Thanks again.

i havent heard from you in a while. are you not comfortable with exchanging for $250 in credit? the whole process is entirely negotiable.

before i can commit to this, i'd like to see exactly how much work is going to be involved. do you have a offilne copy of the site that you can email to me? maybe as a zip file? you can mail it to me.

If you could do all that for $200 either payment or exchange for parts then I am game.

Depending on how many pages need to be worked on (the total number of html pages) and the complexity of the scripting, i could help redesign your site for $175 - $275. I am willing to exchange services for parts. The quoted price will include image optimization, color matching of the content pages to the flash navigation, usability testing, cross browser issues, and two custom banners to match your redesigned site.

The front and rear bars I could do $78 free shipping for the celica.

The links, fonts, info, and everything text related was done by me. LOL I guess I don't have the special touch when it comes to sites. The images and file names were also done by me LOL. I guess I really need help with this. Would you be able to give me a quote if I were to hire you to make my site up to standards so that search engines can find it?

it looks like your site was designed by 2 different people. the flash part flows well, but the rest of the site doesnt follow the normal standards of web design. for example, many of the image names have spaces in them. this can cause problems loading the images in some web browsers. the font and link colors were left as the default colors. even something relatively simply like changing the font of your information pages to match the font of the navigation and changing the link colors as well would help it to flow alot better. if you have a basic understanding of html, you know this is relatively simple to do. but when multiplied by the total number if pages on your site, it can be pretty time consuming as well. do you have an estimate on how many html pages your site includes?

also, i was wondering if i could get a quote on just the front and rear tower strut bars for the celica.

Well I don't have too much background in web design. I basically had someone do my site and now I just try my best to maintain it through frontpage.

When I browse through my site it just doesn't flow very well. If you are willing to do this then I would pretty much leave it up to you since I like how you did your other sites.

Depending on how much work and the outcome I could probably give you the set of celica bars, but I guess it just depends on the outcome... Let me know if you can do this. Thanks

i found your website address from your profile. what parts of the website did you want changed? I have a basic understanding of flash, i can edit your links / colors etc. if you have the .fla files. i wont be able to make you a new navigation with flash. also, there is alot of controversy with business sites using flash because not all computers have it installed. especially if your navigation is in flash, the users without it wont be able to use your site. most companies, if they decide to use flash, will make a animated logo in the in the corner of their site. i think the flash part of your site already looks good, and it would be up to you if you want to keep it or change it. the part that i think could be improved is the content, such as product listing, links, and contact info. and i would definately be able to redesign the layout of that for you.

if you wanted the shopping cart function updated, it is possible, but looks pretty time consuing. what kind of updates / redesign did you have in mind?
